Tractor
Ford 961- 1956

The 961 is possibly my favorite of all the older Ford tractors...just love the look of the row crop models, so I've been keeping my eye out for one on Craigslist for a year or so, and the range seems to be pretty broad. Is it gas or diesel? Did it run when it was parked, and will it turn over now? How straight is the sheet metal? Narrow or wide front end?

I've seen a few that were running, and reasonably solid (faded/worn paint, but not a rust bucket), for $3500 or so.

The tractor is near Willis, MI I ----I know it ran ,my brother is the owner.I will contact him today for answers. I know it has a wide front end. Its been stored in a covered area over the Winter and I believe it is in decent condition .

I checked one out several years ago. Asking $3600. I passed since it had problems with the 2-stage clutch.

I was wrong-its a diesel. He said it does not turn over and so he thought he'd try a new battery first. Will have more info by day's end.

The metal is in good shape. The paint is in good shape/no rust. Would you be interested in seeing it ? He is looking for a buyer.

If it turns over, I'd take a look at it. My wife would probably kill me, but Willis is just up the road :D

no such thing as a 1956 961

no such thing as a diesel in 1956.

00 series were model year 55-57

so a 56 900 series with a dual clutch is a 960

late 58/59 saw the diesels. and that was right int he 01 series.

thus you could have a 961 D from then till 62

non runner?

have to know more about tires and tins and general condition including engine.

froze? loose?

in general.. average machines with stuck engines are 500$. things like new tires and usable good aprts on it will take the value up. so will a loose engine.. or one that runs. ;)

post pics.. then let us ask you questions.

in general.. the rowcrops go for a tad les sthan the ag models.

the range is usually between 500-3500$.

I have seen 'every bolt turned, 100% returned to new or better quality refurbs go for as high as 8000$

average runners / lookers go somewhere in the 2xxx$ range usually.

non running / stcuk/ bad tires and tins... 500$ max.

burned? 0-135$

Are those current pictures? Tractor appears to be running with smoke from exhaust. Did he get it going or are those old pics? Looks very nice in photos, like paint was recently touched up.

Any initial observations that may add/detract from it's value?

real issues? not much. looks good.

nit pick issues?

you'll have at least some stuffy pwerson complain about thge paint onthe tires.

what I do is get flat black paint. pressure wash the tires.. then paint them... makes em look great.

and you will get someone to whine that the rim was painted on the hub, witht he hub center being rim color and not chassis color. IE.. most people paint the chassis then the rims seperate, then mount the rims, leaving the hubs the chassis color..e tc.

like i said. minutia...
