Thought it was supposed to be out by now. Haven't even seen a pre-production test or review.

My money says it will never happen in a 1/2 ton. The gas motors are just too good.

They said it won't be available until fall. I hope we see one soon.

Not practical but there maybe a market for people who think there is an advantage to having a 1/2 ton diesel in the US. Or they need the status of driving a diesel.

Exactly...... What would be the huge advantage ? With all the restrictions, additives, higher fuel cost, and expensive repair parts the manufacturers have figured out the slim market isn't worth the certification involved. The huge heavy cast iron engine blocks place extra weight on the front suspension. Go heavy diesel or lite gas.

ummm... they're already rolling off the assembly line. I thought they would be in dealers by now though.

More torque than the Hemi btw.

I like how every manufacturer now has a "Eco" line of engines. Everyone is folling Fords lead.

Chris

EcoBoost is just marketing.

GM has had turbocharged direct injected engines for longer than Ford.

They may not use them in trucks, yet, but they have had them around for quite a while now.

I personally think it is coming, they announced it and made a lot of hype, can't believe they would back out on that. BMW, Jeep, Mercedes, Porsche all have SUV's with diesels, you have a few Volkswagens out with them, why wont Ram do a truck. Around us there are a LOT of diesel 3/4 ton trucks running around taking kids to school and going to Wal-mart. A 1/2 ton will sell in our area, around these parts people love diesels!

Roll the emissions back to a reasonable Tier II and price diesel 20-40% % cheaper than gasoline like the rest of the world. Then sure a light diesel would be advantage for some driving situations. Not ideal for short trips for Momma to drop off the pickup the kids from school every day however.
b.t.w. why do so many scared Momma's bubble wrap thier children instead of making the over weight kids get some exercise by walking a few blocks to school?

I realize that. Its just seems everyone is using "Eco" now in the naming after Ford had success with it. Must be the new hip word or something like "Green" was a few years back.

What about Ecotec?

That one has been around quite a long time now.

I see a lot of chatter today about orders actually going through. If it's true, they'll sell a lot of these trucks.

I agree, the gas motor if properly maintained will outlast the body.

They should...the bodies are made of parchment paper...I am a Ram owner by the way, not just brand bashing...Horribly unimpressed by everything but the Hemi in the current 1500

I'm glad to see a diesel option in a 1/2 ton. Looks like Ram might have a whole new market to itself for a while. When I went back home to GA during the holidays, a good friend of mine bought a new crew cab 4wd Ram. The ride was excellent with the new coils on the rear vs the previous leaf springs. He did say he was displeased at how bad the rear squatted when he hooked his car hauler to it.

That must be a lot of parchment paper. About 5,500 lb's of it.
