I found a listing for a Power Beyond Kit for my John Deere 4400 online. It is the old kit, not the newer design. It seems these kits are getting harder to find - should I get this or should I hold off to try to find the newer one? I am not sure if the changes that were made make the newer kit more desireable.

Thanks in advance for any insight that you can provide.

The first question to answer is "What are you going to use it for?"

To my knowledge, the difference is the new style kit has two returns, one goes directly to the tank and disables the 3PH for backhoe operation, and the other goes to the 3PH so it's still functional.

I would like to eventually add a backhoe (dreaming) and more realistically add a top & tilt setup (with the appropriate valve setup.) Based on the inquiries I have previously made with several local dealers and threads I found here on the forums, I feel like I should jump at the chance to purchase this kit as they seem to be few and far between.

How will the older kit affect the operation of the 3PH (or will it)?

I apologize for my ignorance of hydraulics and if this question has been asked before. Thanks again.

The older kit only has the one return to the tank, so your 3HP is disabled for backhoe use. Is am sure we can get you around that easily enough though-go ahead and buy the kit!

Thanks again, kennyd. I believe that I will order the kit if it is still available.

I have read many of your posts about hydraulics and your other projects. I appreciate your feedback and the fact that you are willing and patient enough to share your knowledge with the rest of us.

I have a 4400 with the power beyond installed. It is the kit that disables the three point hitch. If you purchase a backhoe, you remove the arms anyway and use the three point to lift the backhoe into position and then connect the hydraulics, so you wouldn't be able to use the three point with the backhoe installed anyway. I also have a third SCV installed at the rear. It makes things kind of tight. It would be nice to have a fourth SCV for top and tilt, but if I find that to be necessary I will add a solenoid controlled valve to run off the third SCV. Kenny you can correct me on this, but If you get the Power Beyond that does not take the three point out of service you could just add a set of control valves (as many as you like) and run several more remotes by just plugging in to the power beyond quick connects.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.

Yes, that is 100% correct. And I belive we can do it with the older kit as well with a few extra parts. I will have to check JDParts to be sure though.

If you can find a PB kit, preferably the newer one...get it. I have one on order for $307. If you piece it out part by part at the JDparts online you will be looking at $800+.

I stopped by my local dealer on Saturday to ask again about either the new or the old kit. I really wanted to find the new style kit, and if it was definitely unavailable, I thought that maybe they would have one or could help me find the old style kit rather than me ordering it from a dealer online.

I had checked with them once before and was told that since I was unable to order the new PB kit on jdparts.com, that the dealer couldn't get it either. The person I talked with Saturday told me that that was not necessarily true and when he looked up the new part number, he confirmed that it was still available. It has something to do with parts versus whole parts and how they looked it up on the computer, I believe.

Either way, I am scheduled to receive the new PB kit on Friday of this week. Kennyd, I appreciate your willingness to help, and may need it once the kit arrives. Thanks again.

GREAT!:D

Yeah, The parts counter can't order "kits" or what they call "whole goods", you usually have to go through a salesperson for that stuff...
Let me know if I can help any more...

That's the same thing I had to do, go through sales for a "kit", "whole good", "upgrade" or whatever one wants to call it.

I have a 4310 and the only kit I can find on ebay right now is for the 4510 and up, no dice right?

Since the PB kit is still available for the 4200 - 4400 series tractor, I suggest you sit in your salesman's office and look over his shoulder while he hunts down the kit for you. And if he says its unavailable, get him to use the JD locator that checks other dealer's inventories for the kit. If another dealer has the kit, they can do a reciprocity swap.

The kit number you are looking for is LVB25085 KIT POWER BEYOND (REAR AUXILIARY HYDRAULIC)

Yeah, they are still available through JD, eBay might just end up costing more:D

Trying to figure out if the LVB25085 PB kit is compatible with a 2001 4400 HST (or if I have to use LVB25221)

Welcome to TBN. As I recall, the only difference in the kits was related to where the rockshaft filter is located.

I would have attached the PB kit instructions for the 4200 - 4400; but the file size is too big for TBN's paltry 1mb limit on PDF files.

Made up 2 hoses for my 4300 for power beyond. Flat face o-ring on one end 1/2" iso on other end hook it to loader control valve where metal line comes out and crosses over to rockshaft valve. Take straight fitting out of rockshaft valve and replace it with 45 degree fitting hook new hose to this with male tip on end. Power beyond for 150.00,Works great. and made a pretty good job with a lot of cash left over

Scooby4420:

I gather the rockshaft retrofit you did moved the filter from under the seat to just above the PTO shield? My 2001 4200 had the filter above the PTO shield from the factory, so I would say the newer PB kit should be the ticket for you.

I just checked my records and I bought the PB kit LVB25221.
