Anyone have any thoughts on attending a High School reunion

I married a girl from the next graduating class, in our home town. We went to my 30th skipped 10 and 20th, just as clickish and competitive as when I went to high school.

We attended her classes 20th and 30th both were a lot of fun every one very friendly and I remembered a lot of the people. Most of the first questions were about how ya doin None ever asked about money, all but maybe 3 people showed at the wifes reunion the ones that didn't had passed away....

Would I go to my own re-union next time??? I doubt it... My wifes ? OH Yeah lots of fun:thumbsup:


How two consecutive classes from the same school could be so different:confused3:

Never been to a class reunion. I don't have any ties to the people I attended high school with. I have no real reason, desire, or curiosity even, about people who are now total strangers.

I think there are people who enjoy them, and there are people who have probably always been less motivated by social interaction. I know people who would go nuts if they had to be alone for two weeks, and I know people who would go nuts if they had to spend two weeks unable to escape other people. :laughing: I'm pretty sure I tend toward the second sort of nut.

My Dad really enjoyed his reunions and the class of 1946 was always well represented... so many heard about his funeral from fellow classmates and some traveled from 100 or more miles away...

I went to my 5 year and it was great catching up.

Paid for my 10 and work prevented me from attending.

Signed up for the 20 and due to lack of interest it was cancelled.

I'm still in the old neighborhood and drive by the high school almost everyday.... almost everyone I went to school with has relocated and most relocated out of State...

Hardly anyone from school stayed in East Oakland.

Only about 9 in my graduating class. We were the catch-all class between a switch from the 11 year to the 12 year system. And the Vietnam war took several of those 9. Those left are marking 50 years since graduation. We may get together next month... Or not. Most of us see each other around the area. Most of us moved away for work or marriage, then all retired back to the Shenandoah Valley. Great place to live and retire. Of course we can have a reunion with a few calls and meet in someone's kitchen.

I hated virtually every second of high school and have zero desire to re-live any of it so you can put me firmly in the NO column.

Went to my 5 year (at a bar, I rarely drink much at all), but it was just a drunk-fest with folks puking in the seats. It was obvious they still hadn't grown up.

I'm not sure if there has been one since, but next year will be my 20th. May go, maybe not. Would be interesting to see if any of the classmates have grown up yet. I live in the same town that I went to school in, and I see some of my class mates regularly. One of them runs the daycare my daughter goes to. But, the closest classmate from high school sleeps in the same bed I do every night, so if I don't go, no biggie!

My GF likes going to them, I have no desire what so ever. If they are friends then we stay in contact anyway, if not then I really don't care to know how their lives turned out. Besides they just seam like nothing more than a chance to try and brag how well you did or to try and make yourself feel better by finding those who didn't do as well as you.

The reason I asked about attending reunions is my wife and I are high school sweethearts...We have our 50 th. High School reunion coming up in Sept of this year...We went to our 10 yr. reunion and it was OK...just OK....The last reunion was the 40 th. and we did not attend but gave information about us and paid for a book from the reunion with pictures of attendees...Not many attended since most moved far away after graduation....and looking at the book it just looked like a bunch of strangers even though we remembered most of them.....just not the same...

Thanks for your responses....We are not going to attend this 50 th...We have not stayed close to many of the classmates...We have some that we correspond with and email etc. so no real reason to see the ones we have lost complete contact with ...It would be a 700 mile trip so we will save that time and money....

I talk to two people from my HS one I have known since Kindergarten. Its funny 20 is coming up and now "people" are making a big push for it, mostly it because they are married now and have kids when the last reunion they did not and that one did not happen, So I pass on them. I figure I went 20 years with out wondering how they were doing, I can go another 20.
