Are hand saws as rare as dial phones?

When I was 12 Dad bought me a Plumb Claw Hammer, I wonder if your neighbor knows how to use a manual hammer or just an air nailer.

I bought a Disston Handsaw when I got married 26 years ago and it still works fine when I need it to. I prefer to use a corded skilsaw or a my battery skilsaw but when you gotta you gotta.

Take it to the local saw sharpener. They are still out there.

The only hand saw I have left is one of the ones my father used in the 1930s when he was building our 15 room house. The only electric tool he had was a Sears table saw that I still have. He had quite an assortment of hand saws but I sold all but one when I moved into my present home.

I used my hand saw when I built my hay ring out of recycled pallets. It was a safety issue as the pallets were still partially together = good straight cut. I've also got a stand of blackwood trees that I prune the larger branches with my Suede (?) saw.

So far, my circular saw hasn't come out of it's box!

I bought a Shark Pullsaw about 15 years ago and haven't used a push saw since. It get used about once a month or more. I gave up on battery powered tools.

Occasionally I use one, but pretty rare. I have been cleaning out a in-law's house recently after a death in the family and donated a number of hand saws to charity rather than keeping them. Just too easy to use an electric saw. I don't, however, own any battery operated tools. Too many times the batteries are dead by the time I get to using the tool again. It's not that I don't use my tools often, it's just that I have so many tools.

I have a new fangled short handsaw with a new agressive tooth design. It cuts fast and I like it. I have no idea where to find a file that fits the teeth or, if they can even be filed.

I think the most use I've made of my handsaw in the last couple years is cutting PVC pipe. I hate having the PVC shavings in the sawdust on the compound miter saw. It looks bad in the compost and probably not good to put in the garden.

A fine-toothed handsaw is great for detail work when building cabinets and such. Sometimes a power tool is just too much.

I have a couple; one that belonged to my Dad, and one I bought over 40 years ago. Don't use them much; I have a little dove tail saw that is much handier that I use for small jobs.
