5045E...anyone own one of these?

I have owned both. Like the low range of the 9/3, but liked the shift/range lever locations better on the 8/4 and seemed like picking the gear and shuttling back and forth between fwd and reverse kept speeds closer to the same with the 8/4. With the 9/3 I find myself running "B" range in "2" for loader work and the Reverse in "2" seems a little too "tall" for my preference. Find myself wishing was a touch slower.

Do you find your road speed to be faster on your 5303 then on your 5105? Reason I ask is because his 5105 can run away from my 5203. Granted, mine is MFWD and his is 2wd. Not to mention my rear tires are loaded and have a set of wheel wights on them, I'm not sure if his rear tires are loaded or not. what gear and range do you run your disk in? I usually run mine in B-2 or B-3.

Not sure about road speed. Don't travel top speed very often and not enough to confidently say one faster than the other. My 5105 was 2wd and shorter and seemed to turn more sharply and was more nimble. Would I trade backwards...no way. Would I have been pleased with a 5105/5205 4wd....I think so. B2 seems to be my best all around speed for running my 8' disc and 6' cutter. If memory is correct, think that puts me around 4.5 to 5 mph. Probably 90-95% my time spent in "B" range.

I know what you mean, there is quite a difference between B,2 forward and B reverse. I think the theory is you need a lower gear to push into the pile and break out a bucket full and when you back up you already have the bucket full and raised to travel height so only have to overcome rolling resistance. I set the hand throttle at about 1500 RPM and use the foot throttle going into the pile and let it drop back to the hand throttle speed when backing up. Of course if I ever get to run an 8/4 I might get spoiled and have to trade up.

I'm hoping the 9/3 is their most durable and trouble free transmission, not that I had a choice. I suppose a D would be fine if you had a lot of field work and another tractor with MFWD, but if you're a one tractor operation like I am the 5045E sure fills the bill. A neighbor and old school mate of mine was by the other day, he runs a family dairy operation of about 100 head total and has a 5075E. At 1650 hours it needs a clutch replacement but he lays that on the amount of green help he has running it moving round bales and such. I saw a YouTube video of a 5060E set up for the Indian market (seat backs on the fenders instead of tool boxes) and it had a warning buzzer if you rode the clutch for more then ten seconds so perhaps it is a problem JD is dealing with more often today with inexperienced drivers.

is there a big difference between the 9x3 vs the 8x4 transmissions? Besides one being a shuttle shift and the other being a synchro shift? is the 8x4 "faster" then the 9x3? my friend has a 5105 2wd with the 8x4 transmission and that thing is a freaking speed demon! seems fast in every single gear to me.

There is a big difference, in fact just about the whole tractor. The only thing in common between the 5D and 5E series (and 5005 vs 5003) is more or less the engine and body work. The 5D uses a lighter rear end, mechanical brakes, different 3pt hitch assy, lighter transmission and bell-housing, and the list goes on. Basically it is a tractor that is designed for the economy market (and Indian market) and it is not the same old 5000 series like the 5003 and 5E series, which are mostly unchanged since the first release in '92. I'm not saying the 5005/5D are a bad tractor in any way, just not the same as the other 5000 series.

I bought one 8 months ago really like it, but just starting to look for toys for it. I have forks, loader, and box blade. Need rotary cutter, harrow drag, snow blower, and tiller. any suggestions on size to get? hopfully from experience

My vote would be for 6' implements with drag harrow maybe bigger depending on needs. May could go as big as a fold out 15' if needed.
