I meet a guy who had a trash truck company. Had something like 40 trucks. He ran fuel oil in them. The fine in his state was only $75 and he saved 10 times that a day so it was worth the risk.

Chris

The company my Dad used to work for ran farm plates on all thee trucks for years, which gave them the legal right to run off road fuels. One year during an audit, they were advised to ditch the farm plates for regular commercial ones, as the laws were about to change. Good thing they did, because they fines were outrageous.

There is a thing called Moates Quarter Horse. A lot of Mustang guys use it to write their own tune. There is no difference. What about offroad H or X pipes for a car? If it is for offraod/ race use what does the EPA care?

I agree, but somehow they are able to regulate tractors/ construction equipment

Of course. That is because the EPA is above the Constitution. They are able to pass "regulations" which are really LAWS without that annoying process of having to go through the House of Reps, Senate and the President. Doesn't take much past a crappy high school education to have learned that...

I run red in my tractors simply because its a good bit cheaper here and the on-road and off-road tanks are side by side. I have had the attendants come out and ask me if I was buying that for a tractor and not a truck.lol yeah lady I just hauled six 5 gallon cans up here to go home and fill up my diesel truck to avoid paying a tax. Idiots.

I put red in my tractor. It isn't convenient, just one shop local with it and I have to pay cash. It is a principle thing for me. The state/feds get enough of my money without me having to pay even more in fuel taxes to drive my tractor around my property.

Exactly. I'm taxed on plenty of stuff. I deserve a freebie sometimes.

The real question is will Edge just fold shop and reopen under a different name? The sad fact is they probably didn't have the resources to fight the EPA so they just worked out an agreement. In the long run it'll just be a waste of time because, like anything else now, people will just post all over the internet how to do the work on boards. Any program or date needed will just be put on a server in another country out of the reach of the US government. And of course there will be lots of "for off road use only" warnings that will get ignored.

I can see where it might be more trouble than its worth to stock red and taxable diesel if you have need for both. I only have off road diesel fuel and equipment so for me and my 150 or so gallons per year, I just get my local jobber to bring it to the farm and he services my tank and my brother in laws at the same time so usually about 200 gals. each delivery and he will top off our tractors also if we want.
As for the EPA, I can see a non-DEF fluid engine being worth a few bucks to the prospective buyer if it is low mileage and good shape.

5 gallon cans are a pain in the a..s and wallet. A 55 drum is cheap and easy to move if you have a FEL. The drum makes it cost effective against the road taxes.

I love NC .. There are 3 places that sell off-road within 3 miles of home.

our local jobber sells 55g drums of red for the price of clear... we have to buy 1000g bulk to get any discount.

I go directly to the oil company on buy offroad. At times it is $.20 cheaper than the 2 gas stations that sell it.

About ten years ago, went to Daytona Beach to pick up a trailer in January. They had a freaking snow storm! The restaurant didn't have any heat at all. Wait staff wore sweaters and complained about the cold. We ate dinner with our coats on, Hot Coffee was free!

around here I'd have to drive the next city iup to get red diesel at the discount. I can buy locally by the drum.. for clear prices.

either way.. for burning 5g at a time.. it's not worth it to drive to another city to save the road tax on 5g for me anyway.

Its the same bullsh*t around here. I end up getting it delivered. I'm burning massive amounts of fuel to get these hayfields fertilized.
I cant see why us farmers cant burn red in our trucks, too. I'm towing wagons all over the roads at $4/gallon.

If the EPA has it's way, those limp-noodle tree-huggers will have us all walking or riding bicycles before long.

I tell you what.

Lately.. I've been using my old gas tractors more and more. for those I can actually get a refund ont he road tax.. there is aftually a line item / form to fill out for rebate of gas road tax for gasoline used on a farm.

most of my tractors are old.. I have way more gassers than diesels.. and have been running those more.

the gasswrs under 50hp aren't too bad on economy. over 50 and they sux :)
