Reasonably Priced .22 with Scope

I've got a Remington model 512 Sportsmaster 22 rimfire long or short and I would love to put a scope on it - just a $50 scope from walmart...has good reviews but mine does not have the pre bored holes for the scope mount...anyone know how I could go about it...? Thanks..

Unfortunately Bob the 512 is going to have to be drilled and tapped. Not a big deal at all for a gunsmith to do and keep things square and lined up, but probably beyond your normal "average" guy to get right.. Go to a local gunsmith and ask how much..

OK - thanks James...I may just keep the iron sights then...It is accurate quarter size at about 75 yrd. maybe further but 75 yrds is all I have tried lately....years ago I use to go squirrel hunting with this rifle and ate a lot of squirrels -LOL

That's the reason I brought this tread up. In my case, I'd rather not modify my old .22, and thought it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new toy.

I have a Savage Arms MKII a lot like this one that I really like. I bought it several years ago at Walmart and upgraded the scope. It's a great little plinker and I love the bolt action with the 10 shot magazine. If several people are shooting, they all get a magazine and shoot their targets. You don't have to count shots, just shoot until the magazine is empty then compare targets. That's what I do with my grandson and he loves it. I can sight it in so it easily groups within a dime diameter at 100 feet. Turtles and varmints don't have a chance. Cabellas has them for around $250 with a stainless steel barrel so fingerprints don't rust if you don't get them cleaned off.

Ahhh don't get me wrong, if the wind is not blowing I can group 1/4" @25 yds, 1/2" @50 & a little ove 1" @100. In ND at my buddy's place I had a one shot confirmed kill @206yds on a Prairie Dog, but that is not something I would do again since I always want a clean kill & that is just too risky. 100yds & under I'm all over it with my 10/22 that has a few "tweaks":thumbsup:
