We see the Turkish drum mowers going for $800-900 at auction sales here locally. Machines are 2-4 yrs old and look like they should mow. Ken Sweet

Drum mowers have been popular here in Turkey for years particularly among fruit farmers who mow grasses between trees. Hay makers with balers nowadays usually use disc mowers. There are many modified versions of drum mowers here made by small workshops according to every fruit farmer's demand, from 1 ft (single drum) to 2 ft to sliding to head rotating etc. Modifications on drum mowers are easy too at workshops, unlike disc mowers. This is another advantage of drum mowers. However, if you are in hay business, drum mower is not recommended.

Disc mowers, like sicklebars, cut and drop the hay flat without windrowing it.
I guess I'm not clear on what a drum mower is, but the disc mower I've been using (a Deutz-Allis, can't recall the model, maybe SM55) lays the hay in semi-windrows. Its two inner discs spin clockwise and the three outer discs spin counterclockwise, so it ends up laying a decent amount of the hay in a row between the paths of 2nd and 3rd discs. They're not heavy enough that I'd try baling without raking first, but it does make it easy to line up when raking.

Sooner they are like to large disc about 3 foot across with 3 to 4 blades attached,, one moves counter the other clockwise,, which throw the hay between the two large disc or drums.. instead of having 6 or 8 disc rotating you have two large drums rotating.. Lou

I have a 165 CCM drum mower, 65" cut, and it is amazing to work with, very easy to use but they are very heavy. The nice thing is that there are only 6 blades so that means a lot less than on he disk mower. I highly recommend the drum mower, don't know about any other manufactures but mine is one of the best things I have.

The drum mower you have is made by Turkay Tarim, the largest manufacture of drum mowers in the world. The CCM marketing lable is fading but the same mower is currently marketed in the USA under HayMAG, & Minos. Turkay Tarim sells more drum mowers in the USA than all the rest of the manufacturers combined. The SFI mowers are not manufactured by Turkay Tarim.
Drum mowers have their place and disc mowers have their place. The first company in drum mowers was PZ. Then came Deutz Farr. Most drum mowers 75" and below are copies of the PZ system. Since 1987 PZ has been purchased and sold. The PZ name and original products are owned by Kuhn. The current Kuhn 170 drum mower is basically the same mower as your CCM 165. The Kuhn is not manufactured & marketed in an efficent way. The same technology and quality as the Kuhn is available for $$$ thousands less.

I still think the PZ drum mowers with conditioners were the most trouble free mowers we've had and cut as good as any other system .

What has changed since 2002? You had been hiding the name Turkay till..? last year? I read somewhere on this forum you mentioned a group named Tecostar formed by Turkay and some other mfg companies. Last week, someone here told that there is no Tecostar group. Phil, SFI, what is your source? Fimaks? I can give much better price. Well, I plan to import from China, much much better price.

Disc cutter or disc mower. 7 ft..
Without conditioner: 5500 usd (air cargo: 1500 usd - 7 days delivery.. sea ship: 500 usd - 30 days delivery)
With conditioner: 7000 usd (same shipping costs above)

Or, drum mower? 5 ft
1500 usd (by air, high shipping cost, meaningless. by sea, 500 usd)

(I'll put the label with your name on the machine - either sticker or by paint. For exaample, "Lou Mow")

Lou, there are drum mowers (5 ft) for less than $1000 too. This drum mower above which is for $1500 is for 1 pcs.
Order 7 or more drum mowers, the price will be $1200. Shipping cost of 7 mowers is around $1000 total. So, 7x1200 + 1000 = $9400. I guess you'll be paying around $400 for your custom cost there and this means, total $9800 for 7 drum mowers, which means 9800/7 = $1400 at nearest seaport there, Houston seaport? I guess custom tax is less than 5% and land transportation from Houston port to your location for 7 pcs will not cost more than 5%. So, the cost of 1 drum mower at your door can be as minimum as $1500. I can organize all shipment process from door here to door there. All you'll do is to process the custom paperworks there by hiring a temporary custom agent (for $150-300) who'll process all paperworks I'll send in English. Recommended payment method in international business is L/C (letter of credit) when it is more than $5-7,000.
This is about drum mower, an item which has a profit room. Not all items are so profitable. Drum mowers are rare items in which Turkey can compete in the prices even against China. I recommend people everywhere including locals here to buy things from international market when there is good price gap. Most of people hesitate international business, but, it is not as difficult as they think and sometimes even safer than local purchase, if you know a little some import basics, such as letter of credits, using purchase and inspection agents, etc.

Ps: This post might look like an ads, and maybe, really so, but, hope, it is also informative for people who are not knowledgable about international business. Importers maybe angry at my this post now, but, they should think that I am attracting more people to global bazaar by such a post so that you can increase number of your customers. However, you may not make big profits anymore in this global bazaar.

If you are the "Importer of Record" you will need lots of product liability insurance if you resell to the end user. Ken Sweet
