I disagree. Don't you think it would be useful to know if an unbalanced individual in your neighborhood had a permit for a semi automatic rifle? Why should that be a secret? In this case it appears just to be those who have pistol/revolver permits. I presume one can get lists of people with pilot's licenses or liquor licenses. Why should gun owners be treated differently?

I'd want to know if there was a gun in a house that one of my kids was likely to be playing in. I'd take the opportunity to ask the parents in that house how they secured the weapon. If it didn't meet my standards for safety I'd simply not let my kid go there. Why shouldn't I have that information?

Why not just print the names and addresses of all of the felons? Wouldn't that be useful? Why shouldn't I have that information?

Its not concealed if its on the front page. We legislated it that CCH remains private info only available to feds and law enforcement to keep it concealed. fwtw

I called the cops once for a trespasser carrying what looked like a gun....
Took them 30 min in my rural area...
It was actually a fly fishing rod carry case...
He was lost and admitted crossing fences with no trespassing signs...

The officer told me if it was a gun I could have been killed before he got there.....

Then he saw the sidearm.....

I don't travel without a gun on MY property anymore.....

We've got a paper down here that publishes not only the two items mentioned above but all arrests and court results to include convictions Nol pros and plea deals...called the inquisitor...

Publishing what is known as "public records" has been going on for a long time. Many of the old local newspapers, or at least the main county one, had pages and pages of this unreadable stuff "in the back" before the public announcements (which they felt it was a form of) and advertisements. Today only the real estate section of those records remains, for a variety of reasons. Being able to print the truth is a good indication of a free country...but just like one can't yell fire in a theatre, nor prank a hospital nurse, one must be equally responsible in managing any consequences of those public postings, whether in a newspaper or today in an online blog. Say like here. So if what you say consequently imperils me, well, don't expect me to just laugh it off.

But it has potential to put people at harm...certainly you can see that as a very real possibility? These are all law abiding citizens who went through background checks and have no criminal records; who have the right to own a firearm and also earned the privilege to carry it concealed . Why do they need to have their information publicly printed ??? (that's why is called concealed folks!).

As IslandTractor pointed out there is a First Amendement and to some that is equally important! The question to us as a society is which direction do we choose to go??????

As IslandTractor pointed out there is a First Amendement and to some that is equally important! The question to us as a society is which direction do we choose to go??????

I think First Amendment rights end when it puts others in danger. I am not saying this did but it has potential.
