I have a 97 E-450 V10 motorhome...Problem is on occasion when I try to start it, all of the dash lights come up and I can hear a click...After messing around with it for a few times, it will crank over and start. The battery is fine...

I'm thinking ignition switch, any other suggestions/experiences are welcome, I don't want to start thowing parts at it..The result of the information will dictate the camping schedule...

If it is the switch, which one does it take? E-350 stuff is everywhere, not 450.

I had this happen to my GM Saturn. I tried everything. First was a new starter, then battery, and then the ignition switch. Nothing fixed it. I got doing some research and it led me to look at the Neutral Safety Switch. Its on the tranny and tells the starting circuit that the vehicle is either in Neutral or more commonly in Park. It was faulty and it fixed all my issues.

Thanks..That's a thought...I don't know if it's a fluke, but if I move the tilt wheel, around it will crank to (sometimes)...I'm leaning toward that not being a part of the issue as it will start without doing that too.

I can't find anything on the net that has a common theme. That's a first.

Well if moving the tilt it could be just a loose wiring harness in the steering column?

Ford ignition switches from that era were garbage. In fact they were blamed for a number of fires.

Ignition switch and not the lock cylinder, right?

Installed a new ignition switch..Didn't fix it...BUT---There was a door jamb to lower dash (I think) ground strap hanging behind the lower dash cover..Once I calmped it to the lower frame it started every time..I know it's there for a reason but the only connection point I see is a panel clip...Opinions on this..I'm having a tough time buying that being the issue.
