Needing rain bad. How bout you?

We've been over 100 (up to 108) for 11 days, until Saturday. Around noon the temperature dropped 20* & we got 1.85" of rain in a couple of hours. It was localized though, areas 15 miles away got 1/4" or less, one town about 35 miles from us got 6.31"! Ours was by no means a "drought buster", but was welcomed! More rain than we've had (total) since April. ~~ grnspot

The way things are going for central Ohio, I think we would welcome the 1/4" rain.

My wife said, "PLEASE ride the Harley, it might be the only way to get rain..." :D

She was RIGHT! Last Night as I went to go home I had to ride for 40 minutes in a DOWNPOUR in heavy stop and go traffic, in Chantilly VA.

At home we got a tiny bit of rain (less than 1/4" I estimate at our place).

Riding again today...

Keep it up David, I'm sure the neighbors could use the rain.

We could sure use some more here. I'm grateful for every drop, but it hasn't been a lot right here. We've had just a hair over 1" since Saturday. Some of the surrounding areas have had 6" or more.

I did. I rode yesterday and probably today and tomorrow too!

Hope I stay dry though.

Be well,
David

Cut and split a large tree in the middle of June. We were able to burn the logs in the fire pit last night like it was a year old. It's dry!

Been pretty hot and dry here... but then this area is really a desert reclaimed by irrigation projects. Winter snows were good last winter so plenty of irrigation water. I intentionally bought a place that has plenty of water: irrigation, artesian well and a pond. Had to bump up all the timers but everything is doing well. Heat really makes it hard to get anything done though.... just too dang hot too early in the day.

David - Did you ride by me in Mississippi? We'd been dry for 3 weeks, we got 4" (by my rain gauge) in the last 3 days, and it's due to rain tomorrow.

Not as hot as it was, but really dry. I mowed the weeds today, it took me 2 hours. Basically a 2 hour dust bath.

South Mississippi is finally getting a little relief, we were forcasted rain for the last 2 weeks so I put out 200# of ammonia per acre of grass for hay. It has sit in the parched fields for 2 weeks without so much as a cloud overhead, we just got about 2 inches yesterday afternoon and I am hoping the grass survives, I'm already feeding hay due to stressed out pastures.

Looking pretty gnarly...

That map is pretty astounding. And I'm still blown away by seeing both Alaska and Hawaii on the latest Drought Monitor map:

US Drought Monitor

Parts of eastern Washington have both seasonal and long-term drought but certainly not to the extent of what so many of you are dealing with. :(

Hopefully there may be some rain coming this weekend to the Northeast. Food prices are going to be skyrocketing..

Too late for the corn. It's ruined. Brush and Forest fires are becoming a real threat now. Pretty crazy.

Talked to a neighbor farmer at lunch. They are figuring on a 10% yield loss right now. If it doesn't rain here pretty soon, it will get a lot worse. One other thing, if the state average is only 130 bpa, with the price of inputs so high, the break even point might be 100+ bpa, even at $7 per bushel.

I have heard of corn field fires from prior dry years around here in Ohio.
We left northern New England but wait until a severe drought combines with all the environmentalist issues that restricted clear cutting but left lots of potential fuel.Get a strong wind blowing the wrong way and a forest fire in Jackman will burn all the way to the ocean in Bar Harbor.

Corn looking pretty bad here except for those with irrigation and even then looking less than optimal. It's dry down to 5' and then some, just used the backhoe, I know. Any rain now just keeps the dust down for a few hours. Garden surviving because of frequent watering. An abnormal year for sure or maybe a precursor of things to come. On a positive note, Garlic harvest showed above average bulb size compared to earlier years, go figure.....

Dry in our part of central MN. The corn is curling after it had a great start. Rain did fall to the north and east.

Last year 80+ days over 100, All stock tanks bone dry for over a year, one runoff rain this year so far, stock tanks at about 50% and falling. A few showers, very spotty, and for me not a drought breaker yet...still well below typical rain fall for the year. I'm predicting continued drought. But, don't anyone dare go reading the global warming thread....none of this is true and soon we'll be in an ice age,or something...don't get me started:rolleyes:
