Looking around the forums, you can find lots of complaints about the K46, & K58 hydro transmissions. None about the K72's found in the X5's They are significantly more HD than their smaller cousins. They are also designed to be serviced, with a filter built in. Built to last, and perform heavy work like: pulling, and plowing. Just another reason I chose the X540.

I know. I could not believe when I found it. He had a diesel gator and the 540 that he got in return from some work he did for a guy that was getting a divorce. He was asking $4500, but I saw no reason to really negotiate as it was a good deal to begin with. It is complete overkill for what I generally mow, but I could not pass it up. Inwas actually looking at a 300 or 320. Powerflow bagger works on the leaves as we have 37 oak trees. I had a Craftsman for 11 years and the deck pin kept slipping. The Kohler engine was still good and the mower was actually in perfect condition. I gave it to my Father in Law to use. The baby moon hub caps are completely over the top, but they came with the mower. There is a difference in JD and other mowers!

Thats a good looking machine and you got a great deal to boot. Right place at the right time. Since my mower died on me I just decided to quit looking and go ahead and buy new. So far I love my 530! You are right about a difference in JD mowers. I couldn't find another rider that was anywhere near as nice and some were not much cheaper either. I hope it serves me well. Problem is, no rain equals the grass will not grow and I can't use it, I do want to get the 14 bushel Bagger and power flow system before next spring. I think it will be about $1,300. Do you feel it's a quality unit worth the price?

It is expensive, but is easy to install. The power flow works well. The bags fill up quickly and there is some blow out. The "fill gauge" is useless to me as I can never see it while mowing. I would recommend it unless you have a yard goat

Nice looking tractor, Any idea what model gator he had and what he wanted for it?

I purchased this late last year and the Gator is sold.

Been doing research and reading the threads. I am deciding between the x530 and x540 as well. Currently i have two offers on the table. x530 for $6250 and x540 for $6850. They are both before taxes, hdap tires, 48" deck, delivery and setup included. Its a $600 difference between the two. So is LC engine, better looking hood, tilt steering, front weight bracket, 21" seat worth $600 more. Is there anything else different between the two i may have missed? Thanks again guys and great forum.

For the price difference, yes. Your only paying $600 more, a lot of people get dinged an extra $1,000 to step up to the X540.

Thanks. Is $6850 a good price or should i try and work it down?

That is a bit less than I paid for my X540. I am very pleased with my choice as well. The liquid cooled engine is worth the extra $$ imo. It has plenty of power, is very quiet, and runs very cool. My X540 feels and works like a tractor that also cuts grass. Not just a riding mower, It is a real work horse and a pleasure to use.

It will be $7300 with taxes, shipping and setup. Just trying to make myself feel better about the high cost. Thanks for the info.

My prices were 5,820 & 6,420 for the 540 & 540 respectfully with 54" deck. So the 600 difference is consistent. You may have some room to work on price but prices seem to be regional and you may be getting the best price for your regionI would have paid that difference, but my dealer would not throw in the HDAP tires with the 540. So my difference would have been almost a grand. I am very pleased with my 530. Very powerful and smooth running & mowing machine. You won't go wrong either way. Good lick with your decision.

Did you have to pay shipping? Yeah i guess since he is throwing in the hdap tires it makes it a better deal. I'll try to get him to an even $7000. Let's see what happens. NYC is ruff to get deals.

I didn't have to pay shipping. They had both machines on the lot and I took my trailer with me. My price for the 540 with HDAP tires was 6,720 + tax, so your price is in line since this was the lowest price I got and from my closest dealer to boot. If you have hills, you will appreciate the HDAP tires. My 530 is far ahead of any mower I've ever owned and I enjoy using it a lot.

Spoke with dealer and he agreed to $6850 FLAT with hdap tires, 48" deck, shipping and setup. Going tomorrow to seal the deal. Hopefully soon we will see some pics.

Nice! I had to order my tractor. There was no shipping fee, but I did have to pay a bit more than you are paying. I also got the 48" deck, but no HDAP tires. Here in Florida, zero turn mowers are very popular. They sell many more ZT's than tractors No local dealers keep anything larger than X300 series tractors in stock. Makes it tougher to get a deal when you have to order them.

Will provide pics as soon as i get it. I also had the dealer install the mulching kit with blades. I'm not getting a bagger any time soon. I'm wondering how good is the kit in general? Should i have just stayed with the regular blades and side discharging?

Congrats!! I know your gonna like it. I've been pondering the mulching kit or gator blades myself and will be interested in the responses. I have to say, I am impressed with the overall cut of the factory blades though. The clippings are dispersed much finer than my previous mowers. I've always had to take the plastic chute off my mower decks to scatter the clippings, but so far I have left the chute on my 530 and I am happy with the way it cuts up and dispersed the clippings. I mowed some pretty tall grass around my pond this weekend and it left a nice finish with just one pass. Would have had to run over it 2-3 times with the old mower to achieve the same results.
