I'm fixing to perform the 50 hr service on my L3200 HST. I priced the Super UDT 2 Hydro oil it it's going to be around $130 which isn't bad, don't get me wrong. While at the local Rural King store tonight and browsing around the oil section, I came across a type called Mystik TJ 5 I believe it was. On the back it says it's comparable to Super UDT used in Kubota's. It's in a 2 gallon white jug. Has anyone heard of or tried this oil before? I'm hesitant as to weather to change the hydro oil now or wait until 200 hrs.

ALSO, as far as engine oil goes, do any of you use the 15W-40 Rotella? The local parts counter at the Kubota dealership advised against it but couldn't give any reasons.......he just said I needed to use the Kubota brand oil. If anyone has any insight on these matters and wouldn't mind sharing, that would be great.

I just changed my L4240 and BX2660. Before the change the L4240 had Case oil in it. When I change to case the steering seem funny, like not doing anything for a split sec and not real smooth. The same with the trans when trying to move real slow and that also went away after I put in Moble 424 and the steering
was real smooth and the flat spot wasn't there. The tractor acts like it did with UDT in it. After that I put it in the BX2660 but I couldn't tell any differents then the Kubota oil. Keep in mind I haven't put a lot of hours on them yet, maybe 12 to 15 on the L4240 and 5 or 6 on the BX.
I have always used the 15W-40 Rotella for the engines. By the way the Mobil cost me $60.00 for 5gal. After I get more time on them well know more.

I use NAPA 85-405 heavy duty UDT. It has the same specs as the Kubota super UDT. I get the NAPA fleet price which is around $75 for 5 gallon. I use DELO 400 15-40 for engine oil. I have used DELO for 50 years in all kinds of engines diesel and gas, only lube oil I buy for everything and never had a problem. Again I get the fleet price at NAPA when I buy the 1GL jug 4 pack. Also get all my filters there. Fleet price on most is almost half what Kubota charges. I have over b500 hours on my BX25 in just over one year and no problems.

Can't say for sure who makes Kubota motor oil but the parts guy at my local dealership said the paper work that comes with the oil has Shell written on it.I am thinking Kubota oil is the same or very similar to Shell Rotella.I buy Kubota oil at the dealer because it is priced very similar to what I would pay for Shell.

He probably makes a little more $ on the Kubota oil? Anyways, I just changed mine this spring, used Rotella T5 10w30. Use a quality oil that meets the specs, change at recommended intervals. I think the rest is just personal preference.

Check your manual, for a while Kubota had a line in there about not using CJ-4 rated oil. The funny part is, their own oil is now CJ-4 rated. I use 10w30 up here in the frozen north, we don't usually get extreme hot weather here.

I would RUN not walk from any dealership that fed me that line!!! Rotella has one of the best reputations around! I have been using it for almost 20 years now.

And lastly I long ago stopped lining the pockets of dealers and manufacturers by buying their oils. Buy any QUALITY fluid that exceeds the OEM specs and you will be fine. The dollars you save can be used to buy more stuff!

After you get it changed, post back and let us know what you think of the Moble 424. I'm keeping a good eye on mine for awhile, but so far its been good.

The reason Kubota has the reference to not using CJ-4 oil is because they sell these tractors in many countries that do not have the silly sulfer limits in fuel that we do hence they feel that the CJ-4s lower TBN would not be sufficient to deal with the high sulfer levels that foreign fuels still have. Our fuel has been lowered to less than 500PPM so CJ-4 spec oil is more than adequete. You can run Any 15/40 cj-4 oil and rest assured your engine will outlive you. Not to upset the old-timers here but really 15/40 ISN'T the preferred weight for Kubota engines. 10W30 is the best year-round weight. The days of needing heavy oils in diesels is over.

My manual gives temperature ranges for the weight oil needed. Mine lists 10W30 or 15W-40 for all temps.
