Stolen junk

Somebody dropped by the barn Friday night and made off with half of my scrap pile. I feel two ways about it. If they had gotten it all I would have almost been happy to have had the mess cleaned up. On the other hand I'm wondering what they will come back for next. So I was thinking how nice it would be to have a camera on the barn but I am cheap so I was wondering if a dummy camera would do any good. What is your experience?

Chris
Depends on your purpose and geography/logistics.

I'd recommend a dummy camera with a sign saying premises are under video surveillance and a REAL CAMERA pretty well hidden monitoring the fake camera and your valuables. If it's close enough to a wireless net use an ip camera.

My preferred solution is the BBDB approach.
Big Black Dog with BARK.

My sister in law met the Officer out there this morning. He would like a description. How do you describe a pile of rusty metal? He told her there was a lot of scrap stealing going on in the area. Is it the recession? I guess I will have to follow your advise and get my lazy butt out there and load it up. Another job on my list. :(

I dont really think its the recession, rather that scrap prices are up.

10 years ago steel was $160/ton, now it is in the $300 neighborhood.
".........."...Aluminum was 25-30 cents/lb now it is 60-70 cents/lb
And copper was 1.25-1.50 and now is over $3/lb at times.

It wasn't much. Maybe less that 1000 pounds. I was thinking of putting a couple of green marker paint marks on the big pieces and leaving them out so I can describe them to the officer when they disappear. Plus maybe they will get a hernia when they load them:D

Take some pics, store them on your phone or puter.

For years we have had problems with people dumping trash in one of our drainage ditch/gullies. I passed by there a few weeks ago and now people are actually dragging it out.

The main reson for that is "meth heads". They're looking for anything they can sell to get another fix.
