Air filter change, wow!

Ever notice the little threaded tap on our intake tube between the air filter and the engine? It looks like it was put there for a filter-minder type device that measures the cloggage of the filter. Seems it would put this whole argument to rest.

I think annual filter changes are dumb. I think changing filter by color is a little better. I think changing air filters based on restriction is the best. My ford pickup and my GMC Yukon use filter minders for this reason.

Filter minders may work well for trucks, but as a for instance my SCAG mower dealer says the newer ones use the minders but often they do NOT reflect the actual condition of the filter. So gadgets may be the latest thing, but one has to be careful to not be misled by the often erroneous results produced.

And....a clogged air filter causes negative pressure (vacuum) in the crank case and can draw oil up into the combustion chamber. Continued operation this way can cause a variety of problems leading to early engine wear and more serious damage, not to mention your carbon footprint will grow 3 boot sizes.

Isn't this what a PCV valve is for? Releasing positive crank case pressure? But not pulling intake vaccuum on the crankcase all the time.
That said, do our tractors have a PCV valve? I can't say I've looked for one anyways.
Maybe everyone knows this, but I was surprised to learn that a dirty filter actually filters better than a new one. It catches more of the smaller particles as the larger holes in the filter element clogs up with larger particles.
Anyways, I'll change my air filter yearly until I'm out of warranty and then probably go something more like 3 years as I don't forsee much extremely dusty work.

No PCV valves on a diesel. YET. EPA will find some way to cobble one with a pump on a diesel sooner or later, something else to screw up. A dirty filter does filter better but it also builds more restriction, not a desireable thing on a gas but esp on a diesel. The do have EGR valve on some diesels and they have been nothing but trouble along with all the other emission crap!! CJ

What r u talking about? The subject of this thread is air filters, the article addresses that from a professional's POV. U may be hung up on 'marketing' but again its irrelevant in this conversation.

Conversations are often made up of more than one person. From what I know and what you say I'm not certain that you should be deciding relevancy of this conversation.

The source you quoted is a business, a business who likely benefits from selling filters or owns a subsidiary who does. The rest is common sense. No one would dispute that up to a point, changing filters more often would be better than neglecting them.

You sound like someone all bowed up over someone recognizing that biddniss doesn't always have our best interest at heart. Profit/money/power, is highly corrosive to character.

When you consider the instructions on my kioti air filter, it makes it clear that the information you are passing along can be viewed as marketing. Pure and simple. My air filter says to wash it in a neutral detergent what ever that is.... Or blow it out with air. What r U talking about?
