Rotary Cutter Gearbox Rating

I'm thinking about getting a new rotary cutter. Don't want to spend a bunch so thought the King Kutter might work fine for my needs. The gearbox is rated at 40hp. My tractor is 45hp (engine) and 36hp (pto). Is the gearbox rating related to the engine or pto hp rating?

PTO, and you're right on the edge. I'd look for a stouter mower.

36pto and 40 gearbox? I'd say that's a fine pairing....

I'm running similar on fords and ld howse and kk mowers.. have for years... heck.. the 172 machines are into the low 40's pto.. etc...

just make sure the slip clutch is st correctly, or the shear bolt is correct type and go.

I've mowed and mound, burried lumber.. hidden drag harrow in tall grass ( boy that wakes you up! ) chain link fence gate someone 'donated' to my farm property by tossing it over the fence.. etc.

I agree, that's a good match. King Kutter makes quality attachments so I know you'll be happy with it. The large gearbox is probably overkill for your tractor unless you're really gonna punish it. Here's a video we made about the King Kutter Professional rotary cutters:
