Does anyone know where I can get after market brakes shoes for a Ford 1720 tractor.

They are a low production specialty shoe so you are not going to find an aftermarket source like for a pickup or car. So they tend to be real expensive from the dealer. Here are some suggestions:

eBay. They come up now and then although not really cheap either.

Find a brake rebuilder in the area. A lot of commercial and industrial equipment get the shoes rebuilt by an independent shop that will mount up linings onto shoes by riveting or bonding.

Mount your own. It's what I did and has worked out well with the only issue being a lot of adjustment until the shoes wear into the correct radius.

Use google to search for: " TooManyToys facebook " then look in my photo albums for the relining of my 1710.

Just popped the cover off the brakes, this tractor has disc brakes and if it doesn't run in oil Iv'e got one heck of a leak, quite a bit pf oil in the shop before I could recover a bucket. if anyone has repaired the brakes on this model I would appreciate any info, thanks in advance.

Just a little FYI, these brakes do run in oil, they are disc brakes, available thru New Holland and aftermarket, takes 3 per side, only adj is the linkage, same disc on several different models,

That's good to know. NH website was down and I was not able to see if brakes were dry or wet.

it is certainly good to have a benevolent overseer to keep us all in check.

it is a fact that " you don't know what you don't you " but more so, it is a shame just to accept it and not want to find out.

Got the parts in today, easiest brake job I ever did, saide the old disc off and slide the new ones on palce, takes longer to scrape off the old gasket than anything else, just slightly expensive,

I should have taken some but this just too easy, theres a splined shaft that the disc slide on, theres also some smooth disc that just go in the housing, smooth disc, splined disc, 3 splines and 3 smooth on each side, should have replaced the smooth disc also, the disc are 85.00 each from NH or 55.00 aftermarket, a little high but worth every penny when your going downhill.

On a side note,Do you know how many hours you have on the original ones? My land is faily flat. I had a ford 1700 for many years and they just barely showed signs of wear after close to 20 years. Also when on the raod I tried not to use them much if at all.So overall the price of replacements isnt all that bad, all considered.

NH website was fine this am and I checked the design. It looked pretty good and easy to work. It appears the operation of cam to squeeze the disk together is purely mechanical. Is there any hyd power assist outside of the Cover?

It's all mech., you are correct about the operstion, brake lever operates a cam and this squeezes the disc together, the tractor has 1400 hours, it is new to me, looks like the brakes has never been in to.

Replaced the hydraulic fluid and filter this morning and there was quite a bit of the disc brake material at the input to the filter, not sure this is such a good design, brake material is probably scatted thru out the hydraulic system.
