Anybody got a list of DKxx common tools?

I was shocked too. I paid something slightly under $100 which is bad enough. See if you can borrow one to try. It is somewhat more than a simple convenience item but hardly critical. I'd rank it somewhere between the draft control and cup holder.:laughing:

Well, thats a pretty good comparison. Draft control I could do without but cupholder? Maybe ?

I agree. Makes greasing the tractor both faster and less tiresome. I also have gotten used to the sound and speed so I can tell pretty quickly if a zerk is plugged. Also, because I don't need to be grunting and pushing, I can pay attention to watching for signs of excess grease oozing out around the pins so I can stop pumping faster and create less of a mess.

Agree with all. When I grease, I park my tractor next to my barn where I have an air compressor; so I bought an air-operated grease gun (about $20 on ebay). Works great so far.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm sure it is just as effective as the battery powered type and except for being tethered to the air hose it really has no downside. With the savings over battery type you could grab one of those portable 5 gallon air tanks from HF and have full mobility too.

Common item. Check Amazon or Northern Tool for starters. Again, there are at least two versions. One is 12v and works fine. Probably marketed as consumer grade. The other one is ?14.4 or higher voltage and is about double the price as I recall. I have both and don't notice a substantial difference in construction.

Neither is critical surely. I tend to grab my electric if I am going over the whole tractor, loader, backhoe with maybe 40 zerks to service. It is convenient but the thing I really like is the ability to position my eye so I can see grease extruding from the greased joint and not be focused on pumping. I also use a manual lever style which I am more likely to grab for doing a few zerks rather than getting the electric out of the case etc. The electric has a flexible hose so easier to access some zerks which I cannot get with my rigid tube manual grease gun.

For someone in charge of greasing hundreds of zerks per day I'd say the electric is great. For the rest of us it is a nice but not critical piece of kit.

The main issue with the manual "scissors-style" gun is that it takes both hands to pump do you don't have a spare hand to keep the nozzle on the zerk.

That is why my manual gun has a rigid steel extension rather than flexible.
