Re: I've gotta kill that @#$% Fox!!!
I could not resist....
Your Poultry Predation Predicament(PPP) has had me thinking even more about our Chicken Protection Plans(CPP). I thought about getting a shotgun but then figured out that the Chicken Tank will eventually be parked at extreme shotgun range. This lead me to the idea of an AR 15 as part of the CPP. Said problem with this solution is night time application of AR15 per CPP hits the Wall of the Law.
When we first saw a coyote, way to close to the house, and not at all concerned about us, I looked up the hunting regulations. Which told me I cannot hunt coyotes at night. I don't want to HUNT coyotes at night. I want to KILL coyotes at night. Hoping I had misread I called up a Wildlife Officer, explained the situation, and he promptly told me no hunting at night.
I did not bother quibbling with him over the term HUNT vs KILL.
The Wildlife Resource Commission had a survey late last year, or maybe first part of this year, about allowing coyote hunting at night with a light. I guess enough people have complained.
Because of your PPP, and our CPP, I went back and reviewed the NC statutes. While I cannot HUNT coyotes at night I might be able to get a Depredation Permit(DP).
Check and see if you can get a DP to solve your PPP. The SSS solution, (SSSS?) of the PPP might be illegal so it is not recommended.
