No it wasn't my tractor but a canoe 17 feet long that had been done by the pond until Saturday morning. It had been in the same place for 10 years and gave my family a lot of enjoyment and now it's gone. Whoever too it had to move over 300yds to get it over the fence and to the road. The sheriff's dept. said a lot of things are being stolen now in this economy. So everyone please lock up what you have. This took place in southwest Va.

Thanks Carykong it makes you feel violated in someways. I have been searching for a gate since last night cruising various sites. This was not a planned expense but one we believe is necessary. Having a child in college does not leave money for extra expenditures.

Someone saw it and knew its value. If its not bolted down it's gone.

That said as a friend of mine is trying to figure out how to stay in business after his trailer was broken into at a jobsite and 12k worth of his tools (his livelihood) were stolen.

It just seems that someone is always ready to take anything of value...I have lost a new lawn mower, and a automotive battery from my tractor to name a few items?

I am so sorry to hear about your stolen canoe. I have never had anything stolen until 3 weeks ago. Knock on wood. I was digging out a rock near our driveway by the road. Our drive is probably a little over a 1/4 mile. I left a shovel by the rock intending to start digging again early the next morning. I took my mattock back to the shed but forgot the shovel. While eating supper, a neighbor call me and advised me that I had left my shovel down by the road. He also told me that there was a good chance that someone might drive by and pick it up. I told him that it was an old worn out shovel, and that I doubted the possibility of a thief even noticing it since it was around ten yards off the roadway. Well, the next morning the shovel was gone. Probably sold for scrap metal. I can relate to your loss, even though the value between the two items is significantly different. It made me so mad that I was upset for most of the day.

We are in the process of getting prices to install two 7ft gates. Cars come up the driveway 1000ft plus to house and act surprised if you asked if you can help them. One person said they thought they were at Walmart. Perhaps the gate will stop these intrusions once and for all

Neighbor...
If you are referring to the neighbor that called me, then you are most certainly mistaken.. All the neighbors that border our property are like FAMILY. It most definitely was someone driving by that was not living in the general area. In most parts of this COUNTRY, people are generally known to drive the back roads while drinking and partying. This probably occurs in your area also. This is evident because our Son and I drive his Golf cart at least one morning a week picking up the trash thrown from vehicles. Fast food containers, beer bottles and liquor bottles lead the list.
