New here and apologize for possibly asking a question others have already answered. I need a reverse disk for my old Troy bilt Horse. I'd also like to get a manual. I know the serial number (400086) and both the Kohler engine's serial number (9656897) and model (K 161 T) which probably makes this a 1979 or 1980 machine. Using the parts links you guys have provided, I seem to have a choice between a couple of different reverse disks but without the Horse model number I can't be sue which part is correct. I also seem to need the model number to get a manual but I don't know where to find it!

I doubt if it matters right now but this is a two-belt model.

On mine the serial number is on the right side of the machine and the model number is directly accross on the left.

Sounds good! I'll go check before dark. I'm pretty sure there's something there on the left side, as you said. It was quite difficult to read when I checked yesterday but with a little cleaning (and maybe the magnifying glass) I think I'm good to go!

fellas i have read and tried all the links but i have had no luck with just the serial number on my old horse - the serial is 364543 and i really dont know how old it is but most of the finds start with 2002 model - well i believe this to be before that - i purchased it at least 15 yrs ago used but it was fairly new then but the engine had been blown and a crafty fella made an adapter so i could put a honda 8 hp engine on it - well its been one mean tiller up until last week - it did leak a little oil from teh transmission but i never paid any attention so here we are looking for probably bearings and seals for it - it wont turn and i feel sure the needle bearings have it locked tight - if anyone can tell me if i need to search for more numbers or if the serial above is enough then point me in the right direction - thanks a lot

Your serial number should be good. Mine is in a similar range. Let me do some looking and I'll post back.

Hopefully all this helps. If not, then use the first link to contact MTD with your serial number. They should be able to give you links to the manuals for yours just as they did for me.

cyril i sure appreciate the info and am looking up parts as soon as i finish typing - if the engine choked after running it for 10 minutes and the front pulley will not turn then can i see most of the problem if i take the top cover off and will the engine and bracket slide right off of the two post and sit on the floor or is it much more to it than that ?? it doesnt look terribly bad but i can tear anything apart - its the putting it back together that usually gets me :laughing:
