Walmart - End of an Era

Our Lowes does not have self-scanning, but always has staff to cover the usage...Most of the time 3 or not more in line.

I am just not new school enough to do the self scanners wife hates them too. I should just bite the bullet and learn.

Maybe I will sometime when there isn't a line behind me I hate embarrassing moments. :laughing:

Car Doc, If I can do it, I know you can too. Easier than hooking up a scanner to a V-8..Plus we have WM card and just punch it in ,and away you go. Produce is the hardest, if it doesnt have a barcode. You have to find the button..Plus the assisitant will guide it?

i'll go thru a self scanner if I only have items with barcodes..if I have anything odd.. like cut to fit pieces.. like rope / chain.. or even paint, as it requires intervention from the main teller due to age restrictions.. etc... i'll avoid them if i have nay of those items..

Yep, barcodes, and even produce, are simple. And if they aren't too busy, I'll even occasionally go with something that has age restrictions.

Same for me. If I'm at Walmart, I will use self scan if I have a small list, a full basket and their checking me out, but if they want to give me a 10% discount, then I'll be scanning!:laughing:

At Lowes or HD, I almost always go through a line, but I have never really had to wait long. Spring time is the worst, if your anywhere around the Lawn&Garden center checkout though.

our lowes has 4 of those self serve registers.. ok for bagged parts with sku #'s.. not good for bulk hardware, lumber or custom stuff.. but heck.. never any waiting cuz nobody uses them.

Lowes where I live is getting rid of the self checkout registers. Nobody likes them.

Sort of looks like a sales promotion for the new machine mentioned.
I am amazed at what "advanced society" really means.

Gone are the days when an owner or worker ran out to your car with a smile
and asked, "filler up". Then cleaned your windshield, checked your oil, and aired up your tires.
Gone are the days when Krogers had all registers manned, a bagger at each register, and another to rotate back in while your bagger wheeled your cart out to your car and put the groceries in your trunk before taking the cart back in so they were always available for the next customer. These young men were not only learning responsibility and pride in earning their own money, they were also learning communication skills with all ages of customers.
Gone are the days when young people learned talking skills by using the phone to talk to their relatives and friends. Now they text in shorthand without any expression on their face.

Gone are the jobs, I wonder why... Are we becomming a society of electronic dependent introverts?
