Ok. So been reading as much on here as possible. Getting ready to take over 50 acres, half woods and half open fields. Looking at the 40 to 55 hp range tractors. Kubota, Massey, Yanmar etc. I really like the Mihindra 5035. Stats are impressive and it just looks mean as !@%$. I live in SW, Virgina. All Mihindra dealers are about one and one half hours from Me. Hillsville, Va. My questions are. What trans do you like and why. Any real problems, What should I expect to pay for the tractor with FEL. What would you do different with your purchase. Thought about the 4035 but I want to make sure I get too much than too less. What other tractors did you consider and why. How old is the 5035 series. Thanks for everyones help.

Wow guys. I know I am new, Hope I do not smell or anything. Ha Ha. Anyway, talked to a dealer that sells Massey Ferguson and Mihindra. I get the feeling that he thinks the Massey to be a little better tractor. Has a demo 5035 with 50 hours on it with the hydro trans and FEL. Said I can have it for $24,500. Is that a good price on a "new" demo 5035. What do you think. I really love the looks of the beast and think I have to have one. Thanks

With your 50 acres what do you plan on doing with.. Think a few years ahead, and what implements are you going to have. Then is the equipment going to dictate what tractor hp you have or the other way around. We started with 40 acres now we have 80 acres. I wanted a tractor that could handle heavy duty equipment. We crossed referenced JD, KB, NH and Mahindra came out on the comparison charts in more pros than cons. I bought our 5530 4wd turbo sight unseen and had never even seen nor sat on any Mahindra before I bought. I had the foresight knowing that I needed twin remotes, (had these installed as part of the deal), for the equipment that I was planning on purchasing down the road. So far it has plyed out as planned. Go the the Mahindra USA web site and read the various owner reviews at the HP your looking at. The price you were quoted appears too high. I paid 26,700 for 08' 5530 4wd Turbo, a ML266 SSQA FEL and 96" NHVH 242XHD Bison Back Blade using 2 remotes, could use 3 on this beast.

Ill have a couple of horses, bush hoging, clearing fence lines, removal, road maintaining etc. Thanks for the help. Im trying to decide on which trans. Looks like a personal preference but I would appreciate other opinioins on the pros and cons of each. Thanks

I have a JD 2240 with a reverser [ like the Mahindra PST ]. The PST is real handy for loader work, and I personally would get at least this type of transmission if I was buying a new tractor. I went with the HST on my 5035 for working it blowing snow, which requires the ability to vary ground speed VS load on the PTO, and lots of forward reverse at varying speeds. The HST also shines for any 'delicate' loader type work with the quick attach forks, or for manuvering in close quarters, either in the barn or out in the woods. If you are planing on doing a lot of ground engagement work, probably a PST would be better. But mark me down for the HST... Have fun looking..

PS: the reason I would get at least a PST, is it is hard for me to 'go backwards' and give up something I was used to... and the HST is even better for my main tasks.. Nothing wrong with the stock shuttle trans....

Thanks for your reply Jerry. I have read most posts about the 5035 and must say I am really impressed. I too have decided that I at least lilke the power shift and Hydro trans. Just concerened about what I would give up. Other than ripping up roots in a fence line I probably will not be pulling a plow through a field. Can say I am leaning toward the hydro. Still trying to get comfortable with the mihindra brand. They seem to be well built but enjoy somewhat of a second class status. That will not hold me back. Still think the 35 series is one of the badest looking tractors. Now just trying to find a couple units close to me so I can do a test drive. Thanks

Im purchasing a 5035Hst from Wallace Tractor and Equipment in PA. Believe me I spent over a year looking at brands starting with Kubota. I was actually looking used and realized why buy used when I can buy new for same price? Don't get me wrong the botas are really nice but start clicking options on the build my kubota and that price soars. Rear work lights, different tires etc.. It was no price difference to get R4's over ags and work lights are standard. Its the little things. I can't wait to get it. When I do ill be posting my pics etc...

I think the second class stuff is wrong these days. Right now the top three compact tractor makers would be: Kubota first, JD second and Mahindra third. Kioti is also getting up there. In five years, it could be all different. Mahindra is a good brand and I would not be afraid to own one.

And you will. I'm glad i have been thorough enough to Not make impulse or popular decisions. The shift to mahindra was further solidified by coming on here and hearing nothing but positive experiences from true owners. I dont have a problem putting a price out there for you but it won't help you. I don't want to toss numbers out there because what I paid wouldn't be what the next person would pay because it's just not standard. Everyone's is different and I got a great deal because my local dealer is awesome. It'll be easier to grab one sitting a lot than to have the dealer get one for you because the prices always go up. Mahindra prices are going up as is everyone elses so the sooner you act the better. If you go to a dealer tomorrow and see a 5035 for 26,000 and he sells it, you could return a month later to find that the next 5035 he got costs 26,700. Those are superficial numbers with no true value. For a 5035 HST, 7 foot rear discharge finish mower, Im well under 30,000 but not below 25,000. Call Rick Wallace from Wallace Tractor and Equipment Jefferson Twp PA. It is far from you but not that far in the Tractor world. He's got one **** of rep and will help you with anything you need. I've seen plenty of people on this forum make the trip there and are never disappointed. They also deliver. At least shoot him a PM on here username "wallace". This is my first time buying anything bigger than 20 HP so I'm pretty pumped.

2010 was the first year for the 5035-only in shuttle. No worries on the shuttle for me. It's what I'm used to.
I had one problem with mine. From what I've been told, it was an isolated issue on only 2010 models. No worries.

The only regret I have is I should have had the dealer install 2 more hyd remotes when I purchased. You might not need them, but I want them for a Top-N-Tilt kit for road work with my BB. (I'll get them someday....)
I considered most all brands and many models before my purchase. The best advice I can give is to sit on, look at and drive tractors until you find one that suits your needs.

I haven't bought one yet (possibly this summer, pending some gas lease deals I'm working on), but I've decided on the 5035 HST. I've done tons of reading and window shopping to compare. You'll be hard pressed to find a better tractor for the price and capabilities.

I'm working on a kit that will add 1,2 or 3 additional remotes to about any existing single remote. Hope to have them ready for sale in April.

I've no plans for any large or serious ground implements (i.e. no farming except a tiller for gardening). FEL work for leveling areas, hauling fill dirt, taking care of the driveway and snow removal and a rotary cutter for hogging the field is going to be primary use. I do plan on an auger because I have about 1100 feet of fencing to replace at some point and a lot of posts to replace on the remaining fencing.
I've had HST mowers before and will never get a geared one again. HST is super convenient for speed control and reversing without having to clutch or change gears or even flip a shuttle lever. Set the engine speed and press the forward pedal to go forward and reverse pedal to go backward, that simple.
If you're looking to pull some ground breaking implements then I'd probably go with gears and a PST for that. I know every set up is different, but reading up on HST's several places mentioned that an HST isn't great for extended heavy pulling (they generate a lot of heat), but for applications where you don't really need a lot of pulling power for long periods, they're very convenient.

Great info. I am now looking at the 5035.
Well. Just went today and test drove both the 4035 and 5035 pst. Great tractors both. The 40 was a little more agile but you could tell the three cylinder labored a tad when shifting forward and backward. Not really a problem, just a little noticible. Really liked the standard shift transmission which was not the hst or the pst. Then got on the "Beast". The 5035. Wow is all I can say. The 4 cylinder never has a problem forward or backward even at low rpms. I really like how the gear shift is to the right side and well positioned. So is the loader control and the forward and reverse lever at the left. I really think I can do some serious work with this thing. I originally thought I would like the hst or the pst. However, it seems like I use the clutch every time i switch from forward to reverse. Just habit and I can not bring myself to shift clutchless. Also, I like the solid feel of the sync trans and lever compared to the hydro feel. The tractors feel substantial. Sheet metal is thick especially compared the the Ls tractors beside it. I have not been this excited since 8th grade at the movies with that first date!!!!. The negatives. Not much. I don't care for the plastic dash surround and other parts but those are minimal. Was quoted a cash price of $27,000 for the 5035 pst. Can get the sync shift for $26,200. Just want to test drive the other stuff before I jump. I really like thest mihindra tractors.
