Pallet forks. Worth the asking price?

I came across this set of forks today. New frame (fresh off the lot) and used 42" forks. Are they worth $600. They are SSQA mounted.

that frame would be difficult to see what you are trying to pick up with the forks, other than that, I would say it is worth the money

If they are 4000lb forks they are surely worth the price. If they are 2000 lb forks they are pretty near the price of new, I'd guess.

It's probably in the ballpark for new. I think that with tax included I paid $680 last fall for a brand new set of Bradco 48", 4,000 lb. forks.
That was from a local heavy equipment dealer.

the ssqa engagement was sloppy on my tractor, I had to weld a couple pieces of scrap plate to the bottom tabs on the frame, but this is a common problem documented many times on this forum so expect that with any of them.

Make your own would be cheaper. Even if (like me) you can't weld.

Example: I got a set of forks for free from a contractor who didn't need them. He got them cheap at an auction, and I had given him a bunch of work. I'm just going to get a mounting plate from somewhere like skidsteerexpress.com, and have someone do a little welding for the fork mount itself.

Thanks for the feed back guys. Just a little more on couple of the comments.
These are 5500# forks (were so rated when new) measure 1/2" X 4" X 42". I picked up 2 pairs of these a few months back from a Forklift dealer, cost was buying the Service Manager lunch. I found a source for the mounting frames @ $345 ea. but in buying 2 got little over 10% discount so was $615 for the pair. Sold extra set of forks this morning for $500 which leaves me $155 investment in my own set.

I think he meant 1.5"x4" cross section. Of course if they worn enough that a forklift dealer is giving them away they have a fraction of that capacity. I also doubt that frame is rated for 5500 lbs. I hope the guy you sold the combo to isn't using them on a machine big enough to really work them.

Meant 1.5" and yes the original 5500# is stronger than the new 4000# frame, but the forks aren't that worn. They do not have to wear very far before OSHA makes the dealer's change them out. The guy that bought it is another tractor guy like the rest of us that just needs to move some lighter stuff without the back ache.
