Hi, I traded my Blue for Orange with one being a Kubota M7040. I have a question regarding lift. The lift arms on the tractor "go-down" when I lift/pull a heavy load, almost like a spring action. Is this due to a relief valve? If so, is there a way to adjust it?

I have a 7040 havent had the issue before,may be that I just havent had anything heavy as you have but im sure we can get it figured out in here...
Is it just not picking it up or is it bleeding off?

No sure what you mean. This is about the 3PH hydraulics, correct? Not the FEL.

Do the hydraulic cylinders "leak down" when the load is stationary? If it does then there is a problem that the dealer should address if the tractor is still under warranty.

The knob under the seat for rate of lowering may have something to do with it. Raise a load, tighten the knob, and then see if the load will "go-down" when the control lever is pushed fully forward. It should not.

I'm not sure, but perhaps what you are referring to is the Draft Control (see explanation in your owners manual, if you have one)?

I kinda was thinking the same,but never have used mine so I dont know if it would effect it in that way.
Maybe draft control lever is down instead of up...

Thanks for all of the sugestions! I have a Farmi JL601 winch on the 3pt for starters. it weighs right around 1000lbs with cable. After I have winched in a load of logs, I then raise the 3pt, I then start forward movement and if the load is very heavy the winch and load lower down to the ground as if sombody was flexing them down like pulling back a bow string. The front of the tractor does not raise up. I do have a loader on my tractor along with a custom built dozer blade/grapple forks and 200lbs of weights on the front grillguard and a custom built steel limb-riser and platform protection with both rear wheels loaded. So I do have it ballasted quite well.

My other tractors will raise up in the front like a horse rearing-up.

My old blue tractor did not do this.

I was thinking there is a relief valve?

If you have draft control it sounds as if it's active and causing your problem. Check the manual.

Except that the draft control would raise the 3PH if the top link is compressed. Like if a plow put too much drag on the tractor. From the description, apparently the 3PH is pulled down for unknown reason.

The draft control lever should be all the way forward to disengage it if I remember correctly. It is in the manual.

Draft control is standard on the M7040 (in 2009) - it was not an option, did not show up on the invoice, and was not paid for separately.

The 3PH hydraulic cylinders are external and it almost sounds like bad seals. How about if you have the winch at full lift and just leave it there when the tractor is off - does it leak down?

Is it still under warranty?

It could be possible you're exceeding the lift capacity of the 3pt with the weight of the winch,the log and the pulling force of the cable. Will 3pt raise back up if you back up tractor and relieve the pulling force?

I have an m7040 as well, I haven't experienced this problem, but I'll check it out this weekend when I'm doing some major league plowing.

I have not had this issue on the 7040 either.
Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level?
The hydraulic dipstick is on the rear of the tractor above and to the right of the pto area.

Fluid levels have been checked several times/daily. You can hear the hydraulic pump working with the loads. When you back up, the winch will raise back up to a certain point or all the way. Then when you proceed forward, the winch will lower down. Also, if the trees you are hauling snag something, the load will cause the winch to lower and that is why I am trying to figure out if there is a safety relief valve/system. I would like to test the hydraulic pump out to see if it is putting out the claimed rated flow at pressure. Or upgrade the pump with something bigger/better. Also, it seems like the loader does not lift as much as what it states. I have it in the power setting and not the height setting. Thanks for all your input!

There IS a safety valve on the 3-point system. It's designed to do what you've described if there is too much induced load on the 3 point, as in something heavy falling on it or being loaded by an external means.

I've never heard of one being activated, but there could be a problem with yours. You'd need a high pressure source to check it, something capable of generating at least 3500 psi. Kubota recommends using an injector test pump for this.

Once the 3 point is at a given height, the main relief valve should have nothing to do with lowering it. Fluid should only flow to/from the lift cylinders when the position control is active, unless the safety valve is opening.
