Buying Advice 3720 Cab Or 4520 Open Station

I agree with Jordan, if your paying cash go get a nice used. Sometimes you can find a tractor in like new condition for $5-10k off - that's my $.02

savings on used was not my experience..... very nice low hour machines were within 5 k or less than new use the 0% fianicing and invest your cash!!!

Ditto here... Both of my last tractor buys - I beat the bush's across thousands of miles for a good used machine. Literally. I've hauled a half dozen heavy loads back to Alaska in the past several years - one more load - is just another road map away!

Every low-hour, great shape tractor that I found was just a few thousand from a new price. When you factor in warranty coverage and financing interest and travel expenses, etc. the final decision invariably "penciled out" in favor of buying new.

Not sure how the market is where you are, but sure sounds NOTHING like it is here in the Mid-Atlantic. And buy used I do not necessarily mean off a dealers lot either, they will always get as much out of you as they can. I see some INCREDIBLE deals at auction. Many you can see the stock online and if they have something you like go check it out before you bid.

I don't know where's you're at but for health reasons a cab is a must. In some states there is the chance of Valley Fever.

A good friend of mine died from it.

Valley fever is a fungal infection caused by coccidioides (kok-sid-ee-OI-deze) organisms. It can cause fever, chest pain and coughing, among other signs and symptoms.

The coccidioides species of fungi that cause valley fever are commonly found in the soil in certain areas. These fungi can be stirred into the air by anything that disrupts the soil, such as farming, construction and wind. The fungi can then be breathed into the lungs and cause valley fever, also known as acute coccidioidomycosis (kok-sid-e-oi-doh-mi-KOH-sis).

Mild cases of valley fever usually go away on their own. In more severe cases of valley fever, doctors prescribe antifungal medications that can treat the underlying infection.

Another reason I will never drive an open tractor are bees. I had a swarm attack my tractor ( it was a closed cab D7 ) and I swear it seemed like it was a solar eclipse. I mean it was 12 noon and there we so many bees hitting the glass the inside of the cab went dark.

Again depending of the work you do you, if you do any land clearing you have the chance of a tree branch smacking you in the face. With a cab it will be deflected by the windshield.

Now lets talk comfort. If your in the cab 8 hours a day being cool in the summer with a nice radio makes life just a tab bit nicer for that time in the cab .

Yea right, $45,000 later. That's my dream tractor, but unfortunately I know I will end up with a 3520 open station as well.

I subscribe to Richie Bros. And I watch the results from tractorhouse. Auction prices don't track with either dealer or private sales very well - at all!

The only way I'd buy a piece of equipment at an on-line auction - sight unseen - is IF the price was low enough that I could BOTH pay for the most likely repairs/part's replacement and still come out money ahead of a dealer or private sale price! That doesn't happen very often!

There's a number of reason's that auction prices are low... and many of those reason's DO NOT favor the buyer!

What options were you quoted with to have that tractor cost $45,000? Should be in the $30,000 range for a cabbed 4520.

Im getting bids at 13%-14.5% off msrp of deere plus a 1500.00 cash bonus and rebates for either machine the other munkey wrench in this is i already have 60" woods tiller and a 60" brush hog so i would have to replace those if i go with a 40xx series and could keep those with a 3720

Before I would get a cabbed anything, I would consider how much I would be in the tractor. If it would be like the old days when you would be in it for 8 hours a day for weeks on end, it may be nice. If you would be in it a lot when it's nice out or just briefly plowing snow, a cab may not be worth it. They sure are nice though.
