My wife who is a school bus driver and gets paid very little went in for a physical and they want her to take a sleep apnea based on noting more then her weight at a cost to her of 6k
to me they have no base for this. checking for a sleep problem this way if like checking a cars spark plugs buy the tire pressure. or checking to see if the test is needed based on race or ***.

It seems to me she could ask them to pay for her to sleep in the clinic under observation for one night and prove she had no sleep problems and then maybe they would back off. I mean, it is the school district that is wanting the test..not your wife so it makes sense they would have to pay for it..

I have taken several physicals & drug tests for different jobs. NEVER did I ever have to pay for any of the exams or tests the employer wanted to be run. If the employer wants the sleep study to be done as a condition of the job, then the employer pays for it. Period.

I'd get a physical elsewhere...and, if the medical facility is mandated (by the school board or other authority), I'd file a complaint with them and any other agency, state representative, etc. I could think of...

It sounds like the medical facility has a "captive" clientele and they're taking advantage of it. If I'm correct, this is not only unethical...it's probably illegal.

Just go somewhere else, my doc has me in and out in about 15 minutes. A few questions, urine test and im good to go.

Because of her weight??? Almost sounds like "discrimination" to me, so do they check "skinny" drivers for worms, drugs. Men that missed the morning shave for alcohol use. ( Roy excluded of course)

Maybe they should spend that money on Bus equipment maintenance.

On the "off chance", does she have a history of sleep Apnea?
