This is a poem by George Skypeck I have allways liked.
Soldier

I was that which others did not want to be.
I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do.
I asked nothing from those who gave nothing.
And reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness... should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold of fear; and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment痴 love.
I have cried, pained, and hoped...but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten.
At least someday, I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was... a soldier.

Thanks for the reminder Army grunt. May we take time to remember those who served and those who are serving in order to set an example for those who someday may be serving our country. Regardless of faith, take time to go to the link below. Upon reaching the site, scroll down the 3rd selection entitled "America's Need" by Vance Havner - spoken a few decades ago, but certainly applicable for today. Those not ready to shed a tear - you have been forewarned.

It's strange. Two kids get out of high school, one goes in the service, comes out with an Honorable Discharge, the other kid goes to college, comes out with a degree.

The veteran, hardly hears more than a welcome home, if that, while the college grad. is congratulated at parties and celebrations, in his honor.

Guilty as charged! I had a student deferment while in college and then about 5 months after I graduated they ended the draft. At the time I thought I was extremely lucky. Later in life I thought I missed out on something. I had a party while many of my friends were getting spit on when they came home from 'Nam. I have often felt guilty that I never served. I do what I can now. I have many times given up my first class seat to a young person who comes on the plane with a uniform. I thank them when I see them in the airports. I'm proud that my Dad served in the Army and I'm proud that my son is a Marine. I attend Patriot Guard Rides whenever I can. Sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock, but I can't. To all of you who have served, I salute you and respect you. Thank you for your part of maintaining our freedom!

It's not really "one person", so you don't have to feel "singled out". Even my family, never made much of it.

Here is heart touching story, of someone, who does what she can.

Vietnam Service Medal '66, '67, & '68.

Was originally "Armistice Day." A day to observe the end of the "War To End All Wars." Well, that idea didn't work out. War is a for-profit business and a growth industry. I wonder if us vets will start getting cost-of-living adjustments again? You can bet the war profiteers aren't suffering.

So, who got spat on again?

Looks like the tradition of my cities Veterans Day Parade has been cancelled because of the Occupy Movement... how sad is that?

The Cities involved should provide adequate security forces in advance and during the scheduled parades and make sure that all the VETERANS are granted the chance and allowed to be shown the due respect that they all most definitely deserve. And in regards to the other troublemakers that in order to push their own agenda, decide to interrupt the Veterans Day ceremonies, I have only this to say: Get the H--L out of MY COUNTRY. Just my thoughts.

There are many veterans in the occupy movement (and two seriously wounded in Oakland {a lacerated spleen and a fractured skull} after surviving Iraq and Afghanistan). And I thank them for that service, especially.

Please read my comments that I posted on Page three-3 of the thread "Occupy Wall street coming to your town?" In my previous post I was referring to the factions that have infiltrated the movement and used it to stir up their own agenda that differs from the original purpose, thus causing problems and ultimate chaos.

Around two years ago, Scoot Olsen received an administrative discharge from the military.

What actions warrant an administrative discharge from the Marines?

Yes - they found out the occupy protesters were the ones that inflicted that wound.
Too bad the occupy (name here) dont realize (most of them dont) they are being led by communists.

I would like to add my thanks to all Veterans too, especially those who were in WWII. I was born towards the end of it and am grateful for what you did to allow me to grow up free. And even more especially I honour those young lads from the US who lost their lives in the D-day battles. Father was a coal miner and needed down the hole to keep the ships fuelled so he was not in it. The same for all my uncles.

An aquaintance of mine lost a leg in Iraq. I thanked him for his service one day when he was helping at a grade school activity. He moves pretty good on the artificial leg. Anyway, I'll never forget what he said to me, "You are worth it".

Thanks to all of you, Past....Present .......and Future.

Mike.... Sgt.... 325th General Hospital 5th Army 11th Corp but no combat.

I wonder if it would be better to keep this on the Veteran subject, rather than Occupy? The latter get enough ink.

I like to say "thank you" to real vets whenever I get the chance, or even send their table a beer.

I was a cold war "vet" in Germany (enlisted '77), and never really feel I deserved true Veteran status. I was honorably discharged etc. but no one was shooting at me.

Thanks to all who serve today!

Served a total of 23 years Air Force and Army. I joined in 1960, AF first and Army second. I did what I was told to do and asked for very little. Today the VA says I am totally disabled, Still I do what they tell me and ask for very little. The nightmares never go away. Proud to have been able to serve.

To the American service men and women, some of whom I've served with in Africa, South West Asia and all up and down the east coast to Iceland and the UK chasing Russian subs in the 80s, I hope you enjoy a peaceful Veteran's Day.

To the Canadian readers, I hope today, during our Remembrance Day, you take pride in our men and women who have served and are still serving around the world.

RCAF, 1981 to today.
