3-Point Hitch Height adjustment for 3-Point Hitch

Just acquired an l4200 and I'm still getting my bearings on operating it. One thing I need a little help with is height of the 3-point. It looks like the lift arms are not going up completely. In fact if I have the lever in the full up position, I can grab the arms and lift them up another 5-6 inches.

I see there is a adjustment rod on the left side that looks like it connects to the left lift arm but I didn't want to mess with it until I know what it does.

I would 1st check the position controp lever. There are 2 bolts that hold it on and there is a roll pin that hooks it to the tractor. If everything is good there then adjust the feed back rod that you see. There should be when all the way up about 1/8 to 1/4" free play.

The rod you see is the position feedback rod, it tells the position control valve when to stop raising or lowering the lift arms. If you adjust it too far one way, the 3 point won't lift all the way up, if it's too far the other way the hydraulics will try to keep raising the lift arms even after they reach their limits, and will either break something or cause the pressure relief valve to stay open.

There is a procedure to follow to set the feedback rod, in a nutshell you put the position control lever in "full raise" position, then adjust the rod until the arms are fully raised and the pressure relief valve opens, then back it off a turn or two. The exact procedure for the L4200 is something I don't have access to, so that's a generic way of doing it.

LeeJohn is right, check the position control lever first to be sure it hasn't slipped. Unless someone has monkeyed with the settings, there's no reason the feedback linkage should be set wrong.

Does it have a cab by any chance? Sometimes people will reduce the lift height to keep implements from hitting the cab when fully raised.
