I picked up a used m6040 cab/loader today. Aside from looking like a used tractor the only problem is that the radio does not work. I was talking to a neighbor that said the two kubotas he used at work also lost the radios.

Is there a issue, if so is there a solution?

Cheap radios-GGGGRRRR!!! do you have room for one of the good fender mount radios inside the cab along the roof line?

Possibly fuses, broken antenae or power line, broken circuit board. loose hot wiring, a broken antennae lead will make any radio useless.

Pull it out and replace it.

Have you pulled the radio out yet and tested the power wire to see if you have 12V going to the radio?

Just got it off the trailer tonight (new to me). Will be first thing to do this winter.

Is there a better brand of hd radios?

The kubota is a panosanic I think.

One in my jd 6120 is also almost crapped out. Want to say that one is a nexgen? That one has power, but the volume knob is not working right.

not sure on tractors, but all autos (trucks, cars, semis, etc...) use a set standard for size of radios. pull old one out, undo plug and connect to new radio and push it back in. perhaps needing to cut wires and redo a plug if not same.

HR, if you need to cut wires for a new radio this company might be of interest to you. They sell all kinds of tractor radios, wiring harnesses, etc. Let us know how you make out. Stanley

Radio harnesses for Kubota Farm Tractors

Thanks A LOT! I had no idea if you could get wiring harnesses for tractors or not!

I didn't get a Kubota radio with mine but the dealer sold me an adapter harness. It didn't have the wiring code with it so although it plugged into the cab harness, I didn't know which wire went to which speaker until I pulled the cab roof which turned out to be very easy. I had found the code info on the web but I found 3 different codes from 3 different sources so I decided to be safe and verify. The Sony radio has been great so far but time will tell if it can continue taking the beating I give it. If I had done a better job up front I likely would have bought online from a store I found that has lots of different radios ore wired to fit the Kubota harness. Didn't find it until I was looking for an answer to my code question.

I'm about to add a radio to my M6040 cab tractor. Found this post here on the forum. Its for an RTV radio install, but I compared harnesses from the link in the post with the one listed above. Looks like the exact same harness for less $$. I just ordered one for my tractor. Hopefully I'll remember to post how the install goes.

Thanks for that link. Looks like some conflicting info. According to the link that srs provided, the M series uses a different harness. Not which is right?:confused2:

Hmm. Guess I should of paid better attention. Either way, for $10 it's worn looking into. I will definitely post my findings since I've already ordered the part.

Of course if the harness only fits the RTV, I think I can make room for one in the shop! Hehe

LOL. Yeah, I think you might need one. Please do post it, pm me if I miss it. Thanks, H.R. Carver

never really bothered with conversion harness plug adapters.

new stereo should have +/- for speakers and left right, front right, etc... with a little pig tail plug you can strip some wire off. i would assume speaker cable for speakers on tractor are color coded. ((might need shop manual)) to verify.

only thing i do not splice is the antenna wire. everything else. i just use wire splicers, pickup 10 pack at nearly every autostore and at most hardware store for a couple bucks. splicers being strip wire push into one end, then take wire cutters or like and put a couple dents in the splicer. then repeat for other wire / side of splicer.

the one problem i have had, is space for the antenna wire regardless of using harness plugs / adapters. trying to wiggle things into almost hidden spots as you push radio back. has been a pain, for multi cars / trucks.

=================
side note, one thing to avoid is "cd players" for a stereo, they will skip rather harshly when ya working. granted most stereo's now have USB option.

Before you do anything have you diagnosed? Fuses, is there 12V when te key is on? Can you pull the radio and bench test it?

Update...

Pulled the radio (very easy with the right tool) and replaced the blown inline fuse.

Now I have power(lights and knobs work) to the unit but still no sound.:(

Update #2

I believe I got it. I took the radio to a guy I know that does "pimp your ride" stuff. I live in a small town, so he does a bit of pimping on tractors occasionally too.

He said the radio checked out fine and for me to check the speakers. I pulled a speaker out of one my Jd's and swapped it with the right speaker out of the kubota. Music! Ditto for the left side.

Soon as I get me some new speakers I should be good to go. The guy at the car shop says I need some big ones that go boom boom so I can hear it over the tractor. I think with a jigsaw and 10 minutes...

Make sure the ohms are correct and not to get "too big" of speakers. Im not sure what kind of RMS power the stock radio will have. It may not drive higher end or even high powered speakers. Do you know the speaker dimensions? Are they 6X9's? I highly doubt you want to add an AMP to your setup in the tractor so...If you can look up the specs using the model number on the internet I could suggest a good set.

OK, all done. I just got replacement 4" speakers, but I got the high dollar ones to re-pay the favor for the diagnostic help.:D

Now I'm ready to rock and roll!
