Truck or trailer problem

Being as both tow vehicles have a 7 pin connector, I would just get a 7 pin plug for your trailer as Diamondpilot suggested.
Unlike the 6 pin connector, they both should be wired the same.

The trailer probably worked fine behind the Chevy because the fuse wasn't installed for the battery recharge. I've hooked up to a couple of stock trailers with the 6-pin wires and had to use the 7 to 6 pin adapter. Depends upon how the stock trailer is wired which 7 to 6 adapter I need to use. Funny though that any of the GM vehicles I've every towed with ('97 K1500, '99 Silverado, '00 Silverado, '05 Silverado, '06 Silverado, '02 Trailblazer, '05 Trailblazer, '08 Suburban) all of the 7 pins were wired fine when plugged into a properly wire 7-pin trailer. So what years were the GMs wired wrong?

Per Diamondpilot, the GMs that were wired wrong had factory 6 pin connectors. If it has a 7 pin on the truck, it should be fine. If the trailer has a 6 pin, it may be "standard" or it may use the GM/Chevy pattern.

I switched all of my trailers to 7-wire RV connection, even my little utility trailer. No more adapters.

Over the years, I have found Mark's RV wiring page helpful. It notes the GM wire swap noted above.

good point on the maxi fuse. if the tow package isn't installed and no maxi fuse.. there will be no power to the 'brake' pin on the 6 pin plug using a non switched over 6 to 7 adapter.
