I finished the framing and started on the electrical. I was working on the mounts for the lights on the posts when I had to replace a hose on the backhoe, so I didn't get as much done as I wanted. I'm still hoping to get started on the decking this weekend, but it seems like every time I want to work on this project, something more important comes along.

I bought 8 lights at Lowes that I really like to mount near the tops of the posts. I want each light to shine on the log, and also make them stand out from a distance, at night time. The picture shows one of the lights that I'm using as a template for cutting, griding and sanding the logs.

Eddie,
Very nice touch. I do like the lights. How are you going to run the wiring?

Finding time to get anything done has proven to be the biggest challenge. I've decked the roof, cut and installed Hardi for the Fascia and T flashing. Then covered it in 30 pound paper.

The small pond that is in front of it has dried up on me, so I've been digging it out with my Dad. We've taken out most of the trees that where blocking the view of the water from the gazebo, and dug out years of silt. After drying, I spread the silt the the dozer to build up a gradual, natural looking slope up to where the gazebo sits. I seeded it with bermuda grass just before receiving an inch of rain, and I have a few blades of grass coming up. I still need to fine tune the dirt, but that will have to wait until the flagstone is installed at the very end.

I'm just about done with the shingles, but haven't been able to put a lot of time into it. I do a little bit on it at a time, and then goes days without doing anything on it. I should have the shingles done in a few days and then I want to get on the Hardi siding on the Cupola. I'll post pics soon. Thanks for asking.

Roof is done. It took four squares and a bundle to shingle it, and including the starter row, and then cutting three tabs for the ridge cap, it took another square and a bundle of those to get it done. There are three seperate roofs, with 8 ridges on two of them, and a nasty peak to deal with on the Cupola.

I like how it turned out. It has enough going on that it's interesting and attractive.

The Hardi is on and caulked. I will caulk it a second time befor painting. My schedule is crazy this week, and next weekend. I'm not sure when I'll get back to it, but the good news is that it's all set for the rains to come back to Texas!!!

I did something a little different with the Hardi on the Cupola. All the grain goes in the same, horizontal direction. When I looked at it with the grain going up on the sides of the windows, I didn't like it. I've never done this before, so I might have screwed up. I'm doing a faux stain on the walls of the Cupola, with the soffit and fascia being painted dark brown.

Thanks,
Eddie

Eddie,
Looking very smart. When you stand on the middle roof and try to reach the cupola's peak, how much higher than you is it? How did you get up there?
Will the other 2 gazebos be this detailed?

I made the mistake of showing my bride the pictures of your gazebo. The first thing she said is "That would look good at the pond!" Looks like another project to add to the wish list, and I haven't even got the ranch gate up yet.

Thought I would have known better than to do that to myself unless it's really just a Freudian slip!

Again, very nice craftsmanship! Thanks again for keeping us posted, Eddie.

"That would look good at the pond!"

Wonder what the price tag would be to get Eddie up there to build it for ya ?

I mean if you had all the materials on site to complete the project.

I'm betting it's real close to grabbing my check book. I ain't got alot of my own free time.

Discounts for supplying the tools he'll need.

Brandi,

The peak of the Cupola, while standing next to it, is about eye level. Probably 5 and a half feet. I never measured it, but it's easy to get to when standing there.

I still have to buy and install the weather vane, so installing it should be pretty simple. I'm looking at eagles. There are some on ebay, and I've bought from Weathervanes of Maine, or something like that. All copper and as big as I can get it!!!!

When I started this gazebo, I was thinking that the one at Lake Marabou would be the same, but bigger. My posts on this one are on 8ft centers and I have in the neighborhood of 7 feet between them. I was going to make them on 10 foot centers at the lake. As I go along, I get new ideas. I've done one like this, so the next one is going to be totally different. It will be very similar to an emerald cut diamond in shape. Long and round at the ends. My thought is that I might be able to have weddings in it, and I want the middle section to be big and open. I have it in my head that the view and setting would be very unique, and if I build the gazebo like I have it pictured in my head, it will be something special.

The glass block windows are a very nice touch-something I've never seen in a coupola. It really looks good.

I was going to ask you if you were thinking about a weathervane, and then I saw your last post. I see you mentioned Weathervanes of Maine. My bride gave me one from them for Christmas two years ago. I was impressed with the quality. Now that it's been up for a while it's developing the patina that looks so classic. She got me one of their jumping deers to go on the barn/machine shed where I keep the John Deere's here at home. It really looks good.

An eagle would look great on your gazebo, but so would a pig! (Hint-hint.)

Oh WOW. I didn't notice the glass block windows until GGB mentioned it. I love it. They are so  Eddie, you are an inspiration to all of us tickerers and builder/designers.:drink:

From the start, I had a color scheme in mind for the trim and cupola, along with staining the posts and ceiling. Part of me really likes these colors, and part of me thinks it's too subtle. I'm going to do a wait and see aproach to it until I stain the logs, and go from there.
