I let a couple of friends borrow my PT for over a week. There's still time until I'll be needing it.

These friends ARE special and would not only return anything borrowed in cleaner condition that when they took it, but I'd trust any necessary repairs would be made even better than I'd be able to do (they're both excellent welders).

But it was still a first for me.... NOBODY has borrowed my PT before now.

Of course, the PT learning curve still caused some stucco damage to one side of a garage, or so I've heard.

Like the first time you left your firstborn with a babysitter?

I loaned my JD 3020 once years ago and my neighbor fouled the fuel system with dirty - nasty diesel from his barrel and I had to pay to have it cleaned...Now, I would do it myself but he had the tractor and did not know how to do it so he called the dealer and they came out and cleaned the system and I got stuck with the bill even though the dealer told me he had told my neighbor that it wad contaminated fuel and my neighbor admitted to him that he had just added fuel...so there ya go...I never said a word, paid the bill and never loaned it again...Sure hope you have better luck.

"Borrowing and Lending" is a very bad practice from my experience.

If I loaned something, I usually had to go get it back, or in any case, it was dirtier, broken, or misused.

If I borrowed something, I usually had to fix it, before I could use it or it would fall apart, while I had it and I would have to fix or replace it.

Also, if I loaned something, I would forget about it and have to go "buy new", as I couldn't find it.

If somebody wants to borrow, you might just as well "give" it to them, with your blessing. Then buy new, when you need it again.

If you need something, you might as well buy or rent.

Just my opinion from my experiences.

Tell them one of the first projects every new Power Trac owner does is make an air hose pass-through port in their garage wall!

Never and I say never under any circumstances loan out your tractor or your wife ... they never come back in the same condition!!!!! they both are high maintainence.

Decade ago I loaned a 2-cycle lawn mower to a neighbor and EXPLICITLY told him NOT to add fuel. Three minutes into my next mowing of our lawn, it seized up solid. Yup, and the tank was almost full.

Have to agree. I have loaned my tractor and implements to my two best friends several times and have regretted it every time. Finally had to say no more. Hope you have better luck.

I only loan mine out with me on it, has worked out pretty well that way.

I never loan ANYTHING, period. Every time in the past I was the one that suffered and I was the one that lost friends over THEIR abuse of my equipment.

I could go on and on about what people have done to my equipment without a thought of care.

So now when " a friend" asks to borrow I simply say my insurance won't cover them using my equipment and then I offer to pay to rent the equipment for them to save the friendship. No one has ever taken me up on my offer to pay, and they only ask ONCE.

Unfortunately in today's world there is always a lawyer who would find a way to take you to the cleaners if you are the owner of a machine and someone has an accident. Loaning out machinery is really a dangerous situation, inexperienced and experienced operators have accidents, hit utilities etc and someone always has a share in the liability. Just not worth it in my opinion.

For my closest friends and family I supply the machine and attachemnts with operator (me). I never take payments. But I do appreciate a cold beverage when finished.

There's only a few friends that i'll loan things to and only some things. I'm not sure my PT would be one of them unless i could check them out on it first. They would fix anything that broke and i'd tell them if i thought there was an issue with the tool before they borrowed it.

Im currently borrowing a small one man post hole digger that i had to fix before using it, but it was an easy fix.

I agree with the posts, which is why I mentioned this in the first place... I don't usually lend tools of any kind.

I had taken the PT to their house to grind a couple of stumps. After working on one for an hour, my buddy took a turn. I was satisfied, after another hour watching him, that he was operating it satisfactorily.

But realizing there was easily another 4 hours of work to be done, I opted to leave it there for him to finish. (they were big stumps in awkward positions, thus the garage wall strike).

I'd already spent two hours at another friend's taking out a stump before I brought the PT to this second job.

After three hours riding the stump grinder, I was tired. That thing wears me out.

My PT was returned Saturday, cleaned and fueled and with nothing broken. Whew.

I have 2 sons that have both borrowed my 425. I trust them both. I also have a friend who I would lend anything to. Also my father who is 81. Other than that, no way!
