Shouldn't even have to pull the pins, I think. Uncouple the disconnects and relieve the pressure. If it wants to twist, I would think it would then.

Does your's look like this? You can see the weld on the torque tube. It cannot move much if everything is intact.

The coupler is twisted; the original post describes it. Pulling the pins or uncoupling the hoses isn't necessary, because the only time the cylinders are forced to be the same length is at full retraction or extension. Otherwise the SSQA device determines the relative pin to pin cylinder length. In this instance, the cylinders are different lengths because the device is twisted. That's about all there is to it.

If the OP chooses not to believe me, he can pull the pins or uncouple the hoses. Neither will prove anything different.

Rick, is it practical to try blocking one of the QA shoes and then using the hydraulics to "un-twist" the tube? Or is cutting the tube and re-welding the preferred solution?

Here are some pics

From the left.

The first pic shows how the right (picutre right) hydrallic is extended more than the left.

Pic 2 shows them fully retracted and at this point, they are even

Pic 3 shows how if I just slightly move them out, the right has moved and the left has not, making it uneven.

Pic 4 is same shot pic from lower so you can see how the shoes are uneven.

If you need another view, let me know.

Paul, I agree completely with RickB that your torque tube is twisted. I thought it earlier even before Rick said it, but didn't want to say anything until I could see some pictures. Have you ever had an attachment pop off one of the paddles? It really doesn't matter because the twist is pretty obvious. If you lay a straight edge along the torque tube, you might see that it is slightly warped as well.

My torque tube is much larger than yours and made of square stock. I think it's much less likely to be twisted. Your torque tube looks like it won't take much torque before twisting. With the new loaders, New Holland has gotten away from the beefier style.:(

I've added a photo of my quick attach that shows the square torque tube. You can see how much more substantial the square tubing is.

Maybe it's just the angle of the picture but it looks like the left side (right side in the first picture) looks not only twisted down but turned sideways also.

Honestly, I did not notice it until you guys pointed it out but now its as obvious as can be.

I really appreciate everyones time on this - its not something I'm going to take the time to fix myself so I scheduled repair at my NH dealer on Thursday.

I certainly will ask if they can put a heavier duty torque tube in place so this does not happen again and will print out the picture of the heavier duty square tube.

I would think that the hydraulics wouldn't twist the torque tube cold, especialy in a retracting direction, which would be the preferred direction to try. But the judicious application of some heat and careful blocking and retraction should straighten it out.

OK. Here is the end result.

I went to the NH dealer today and the service manager was not at all suprised with the situation. Said it happens more than I would imagine.

They pulled the tractor over to a wall of mafia blocks, put the QA shoes against it and started working the hydrostat and the loader control very gingerly and in about 3 minutes, it was all straightened out. Literally, and figuartively.
