Tractor
Kubota L47 & L3200
Today I was using my grapple and moving rocks, I was on uneven ground in 4 wheel drive and there was a pop and now the tractor front wheel drive is not working.

It was almost dark when this happend and I was able to get the tractor out of the rough terrain in 2 wheel drive, it was not easy, but I got it out.

I have the Shop Manual and the Illistrated Parts Manual and do all my own maintenance and repair. I have not gone to the manuals yet, but I have been doing searches here first and I am not finding much.

Anyone have any experience loosing the front wheel drive on the L Series Kubota?
Most obvious things to check first, etc.?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Check the front wheel drive shaft. It might be broken or the splines are stripped.

Hey Redneck, I will be checking it out in the AM, it was dark when I got the tractor back to the house.

There was a definite pop then no more front wheel drive so something let go.

I have a big project going on here and need my tractor and it is useless in 2 wheel drive, it can't get out of its own way.

I am looking through the repair and parts manual now, I will have to blow it apart in the morning.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
I lost the front wheel drive on my Kubota. Was the weld on the drive shaft were it entered the front hub I just repaired the weld. Cost to repair .....nothing........time to repair a few hours (most of that time was spent trying to find the problem)....maybe that's what wrong with yours.
Best of luck with yours

Thanks for the tip Zonta.

When you say, "entered the front hub," do you mean the front axle?

I just rebuilt the front axle, the seals were leaking so I replaced all the bearings on both sides and a ring gear and bevel gear on the left side.

I don't think it is in the front axle, I think it is in the driveline to the front axle. If so, it may be the same problem you had. I will check that out first.

I just hope it is not in the transmission!

Any other tips and tricks out there? I was hoping a Kubota tech would steer me to where to start. What are the common front drive failures?

HM,
Keep us posted an add some pics if you can. I have an L35 also, but haven't seen this yet (knock on wood). Good luck.

I will do that Acme, I am a great believer in this type of forum. I belong to forums for every piece of equipment I have from my Ford Powerstroke to my wife's BMW and I can't tell you how much money and time they have saved me.

I am anxious to dive into it, I have all my AM work done, I would like to find out what the problem is so I can order parts today. I have a great dealer that I work with and if the warehouse has the parts, they come directly from the warehouse to my gate. There is a warehouse in CA so if they have the part and I order early enough in the day I get 1 day service out of them.

I will document the repair, I just hope it is not internal to the transmission. Since I heard such a loud pop I am pretty sure it is someplace in the driveline to the front axle.
