Worst place you've taken a tractor (and gotten away with it)

I have been in a pond b/4 but Easter weekend a couple years ago I went to mow a perculation pond in exchange for getting my forklift fixed. The pond appeared dry, just overgown. I decided to avoid fighting the trees around the pond by driving straight down the middle and mowing each side that way. I dove off the bank and before I had realized it, the tractor had gone thru the false floor created by dying leaves and not only was up to the floorpan in water, but the boom mower on the rear had bottomed out like an anchor on the bottom of the bank. Ford 7710 started spinning front and rear wheels. I stepped on the clutch and just sat there looking at my wife who witnessed my grave error. I am doing the math in my head about just how much it iis going to cost me to get a wrecker out on a holiday weekend. With that figured, I put the 11,000 pound tractor in reverse and let out the clutch out, only to watch the wheels spin. I stepped on the diff lock and all six wheels started spinning. The rears went about one good revolution and then bit into something and out it came. I have been stuck worse but never in a predicament where there was nothing anywhere close that I could hook to as an anchor to put it out with.

Rolled an 8N with fel over front first after caving a bank off. Thankfully the fel frame prevented me from coming off. Now I believe in ROPS.

One of the few times where i wore a shirt and tie whilst driving a tractor was when was driving for a large custom outfit in my youth and a local farmer hired us with several new tractors and hay trailers to move the wedding party all sat on straw bales the 3 miles from the church to the after party with trailers all decked out like a carnival with the tractor drivers dressed and behaving like limo drivers.
Never forget it ..had a brand new MF 3120 fwa ..first day out with what would be the next 4000hrs of my life in that old hoss ....."3 years "

I once went into a Pecan orchard to mow it durring the summer, and it was infested with rattle snakes. I think I killed like 8 or 10 that day. It was like a horror movie!

Worst in my mind was when we were silaging steep banks in south wales (UK) and crossing a river with every load . I'm sure it seemed a lot worse than it was but with new front wheel assist 120hp tractors water did make it into the cab at one point and with empty 10 ton gross trailers the water would take them sideways a little when empty !

my worst dont hold a candle to these, drove off into a dry slough while pushing brush and got a 5 inch bay tree through the loader arms i had to cut out before i could move on. off the suject but amusing now that it's over, i rode a horse off into a wash not realizeing how steep and deep it was, it had grapefruit and bigger sized rock in it and when it rolled under the horses front feet in we slid up to the horn. the more he paniced the worse it got until he was on his knees with his butt bein the only thing out of the water and i'm beginin to wonder just how in the %@&& i'm gonna get my saddle off this drownd horse when he finally found something solid to get footing on and made it out with just some scrapes. i was sure glad to be ridin alone that day. another was teachin a shetland to pull a skid when i was about nine, he paniced and ran off into a ravine about 8 foot deep and went down hard, after finding he was ok i got him put up and hid all the evidence and didnt look at a harness again until i was 15.... that didnt turn out good either. sorry for the outa place post but i couldnt resist.

Ah! Just a bit bigger than the Loughor then!! I asked because I remember my neighbour nearly lost a silage trailer about 25 years back trying to cross the river. Couple of years later I had to get my boat out to help him rescue sheep & cattle in a major flood. Now THAT was scary especially when the current got too much for the 5hp motor to get us back - we left the boat tied to the railway & walked about 1/2ml back up the line.

Was moving/turing the manure pile, and got the Tractor stuck behind a tree somehow.

Tree was in between the back of the loader bucket and the front tire.

Last winter I thought I would pack down the snow on the hill in the back of my house so the kids (25 and 27) could have some sledding fun when they came home on leave from the military. I figured I would just drive the tractor down and pack it and then just move over a bit and pack the next section. First pass going down made two nice packed areas where the tires were. Cool so moved over a bit and tried to get up the hill. Made it about 1/4 the way and things started to slip. OK 4 wheel time. No still not getting up the hill. Ok put it in low 4 wheel. Still not getting up the hill. Tried going up the hill at a different spot with no success. It was then that I realized I may be stuck down here at the bottom of the hill till spring. This is a hill that without snow I never had any trouble getting up. I decided to try to back up the hill again without any success. By this time my wife had looked out of the barn for me and seeing me just waved. I smiled and waved back. No way was I going to admit to her that I may be stuck. So another idea came into my mind. I would back the tractor as far up the hill as I could and then use the FEL bucket to dig in and push me back while applying some backing with the wheels. Inch by inch I started to make progress. Dig in curled FEL uncurl while backing. Apply brakes curl bucket and dig in and uncurl bucket while backing. I got real good at it in the hour and a half it took me to get up that stupid hill. My wife's only comment when I finally pulled the tractor into the barn was " Did you have fun while I was cleaning out the horse stalls"

When i was in high school i was working for a neighboring farmer. He had a crazy bull that took off running into another neighbor's pasture. No more cars he said - we'll get the tractors. I had never heard of chasing cattle with tractors. I got on an IH 560 and he got the Oliver 1950T. We drove out and found this bull lying in a slough with just his head sticking out of the water. My boss tells me to back the tractor into the water to get the bull out. I was about 300' into the water (about 3' deep) when the bull got up and took off running - the wrong direction. I put the tractor in 4th gear and drove right out to my surprise.
now the bull was going in the wrong direction and my boss took off and got in front of him and was coming at him head on. My boss stopped just before they collided and the bull veered left and kind of stepped over the right front wheel which thanks to steering mechanism and my boss's penchant for using nails instead of cotter pins got the bull's belly bleeding pretty good. My boss - not being real happy gets in front of the bull again and again stops just before hitting him. this time the bull veers right and goes over the other front wheel and is now bleeding real well. My boss is ticked and gets in front of the bull again and this time only stops after hitting the bull head on. Since the 1950T had a cast iron grill the bull stumbled and went down. Then he got up and walked the almost two miles back to my boss's place without any trouble. I had never seen anything like it!

This one is easy. I took the JD 5425 we had into the woods a few years ago to clear some shooting lanes for deer season. It had rained about a week and a half earlier, but the ground was perfectly dry out in the fields. So i worked for about an hour and a half before I was pushing some brush with the fel and I just sunk. Under the canopy of trees the top layer in this one spot had dried, but it was all mud underneath. I put it in 4wd, locked the rear diff and tried to get it out. All I did was to sink it up to both the front and rear axles. About this time my father comes along on the four wheeler and he is not impressed.... He turned around and left me there. I was finally able to get out by lifting the front end with the bucket and stuffing a vast amount of vegetation under the front wheels. I locked the rear diff and went at it sawing the front wheels back and forth. The front end finally bit and drug it out. It took 4 hours to get it out and I could not have gotten one of our other tractors in there where i was to pull it out, would ha e had to have let it sit there until the mud dried. Took another 3 hours to clean the mud off, it was e everywhere. Open station tractor so tbe tires bad flung the mud from top to bottom not to mention how deep I had it in. I still cannot believe the front end finally got enough traction to pull it free.....

sounding like me. mowing pasture. and rear end suddenly drops out from under me. and quickly find i am pinned up on the mower deck. (front wheels and back wheels) not even touching the ground. *frowns* new spring or something coming out of the hill side. and decided it was not going to hold the weight of the dirt over the area and tractor. and PLOP!

though for me, it was a full day plus another day. to get things dug out, and jacked up and boards put in place. and few hundred feet of cable. :/

though getting away with it. 555c TLB. and moving like an octopus with 4 arms and 4 legs. working the FEL, backhoe, out riggers, gas pedal, steering wheel, etc... as close as i could all at the same time. also the out riggers. being on them ugly inclines, and lifting rear end with backhoe. YA! always fun. *groans*
