JD 4010 Compact Tractor 4WD

Just bought a JD 4010 Compact Tractor and have figured out most controls. But is the 4wd a full time feature if not how do you shift in and out of 4wd?

Welcome to TBN

The 4WD lever is on the left floorboard right behind your left heel as you are sitting in the seat. Down is engaged (4wd) and up is 2wd. It also has a orange handle.

I was under the impression it just locked the rear dif. But it makes sense that it does the 4WD and maybe also lock the rear dif.

The rear diff lock is the black lever that has no colored handle on it, it's to the left of the 4wd lever, it must be held down with your heel to keep it engaged.

I found a manual on Ebay and its on the way. My dealer could order me one but at twice the price But I can not wait for the manual, I just got to play with it now.

So I have been moving mulch and black dirt, also used the bucket to lift the front end of my Murray Yard Tractor so I could easily put on new blades.

I picked of the steel today to weld up a good drag so I can keep my class 5 driveway looking nice and free of pot holes etc.

Also ready for the first major snow storm to hit so I can play with it in the winter.

Which brings up another question, anyone know of a good release agent that I can spray on bucket so the snow dumps easily.

Its like new only 28 Hours on it. And as you can tell I am thrilled with my purchase, I could not be happier with it.

I use WD40 but others here swear by Pam.

Here is a URL to an online version of the manual. The following is from the manual. Please note what is in bold.

Tips for operating MFWD:

Maintain front tire pressure at maximum allowable level to ensure proper tire performance in all field conditions.
Engage MFWD to provide four-wheel braking.
Disengage MFWD when driving machine to or from work site to increase front tire life.
MFWD may be engaged and disengaged on-the-go with light loads and on low-tractive surfaces.
