I was laying some water line across my pasture to reach another area when my fater came up with a great idea. We put on the single bottom plow and cut a single furrow 10" deep and layed the sod right beside the hole. Layed in the water pipe and with a garden rake layed the sod right back in place just a purty as you will. Drove over the trench a couple of times and you can hardley tell we were there. Just passing along an Idea that worked for us.

In central Maine that sounds like a summer only water line at 10" deep.

Idid that last summer with 300' of Cat5 cable. I agree it did work like a charm.:D

Just did the same thing but my line just gravity feeds the pasture water troughs and I drain for winter. (I think our frost line here's over 36 inches and the old one bottom ain't goin' that deep)

In maine pasture is a summertime only thing, unless you plow paths for your animals that is. I tap maple trees and routinely have taps 7 or 8' high that were 3 or 4' high before the thaw. People always comment on the 3-4' high stumps and think its a waste leaving that wood behind, what they don't know is it was cut with the surface of the snow. I just disconnect in fall and blow a little air through the lines, no problems since I switched to Pex tubing instead of black plastic.

That method also works great for installing silt fence around a construction site.

I have dug 3 different trenches (and soon planning on another one) for water lines, using my middle buster. With alittle weight on it (someone standing on it) it works perfect.
