How many towing miles a year are you planning on driving? The answer to that question would answer the question of if you should go gas or diesel IMO.

Well I figuerd I would show my tractors that I have so yall get an idea of what im haulingView attachment 227033

Also truck will be used to haul hay and cattle

I've found it pretty rare to find SRW GM or Ford 3500/350 long box trucks at dealers in E. Texas even with the oilfield activity.

They are pretty prevalent on I35 or west. Midland/ Odessa, San Antonio, even Victoria and Kingsville have had a good stock.

One thing to consider in the new diesels is the requirement on a fuel additive every 5k miles. I am not sure the specifics but the GM mechanic working on my wife's acadia was telling me about it. I'm sure people will figure out ways arround it but it sounds costly and a PITA.

Well they have better deals on the 2011 Dodges offering $3500 off and some of the trucks, so they claim have the New Diesel in them,I dont know what to look for to be able to tell if it is the 800torque motor. Wife thinks auto,I think 6spd but undesided can see the $ saved on clutches, lot less shifting, there claiming that hold there speed better once up and going,I have never owned a auto diesel. 60% life pulling light loads

ok guys i can solve this prob real quick, you get the dealers asking price on the truck.lets say the truck list for $55000 an their asking price is $50,000 you offer them $42,000 as a talking point on said truck.

My Chevy Duramax with the six speed Allison transmission has 145kmi on it and all I've ever done is regular maintenance. The Dodge motor is okay, but I wouldn't take for my Allison transmission. I pull 12,000 to 14,000 regularly, and it has handled everything I've every loaded on it. My truck is a 2007 with the LBZ motor and it gets 18 to 20 mpg highway empty, and that's with a heavy flatbed on it.

I'm not knocking Ford or Dodge, just saying if you ever buy a Duramax paired with and Allison, you'll never own anything else.

Mine is an 07 LBZ also, best one made IMO, just before all the emission crap came out. That Ally is the cats meow!!

You should read Diesel Truck Resource page forum about the Dodges. They have much good info there.

I bought my Dodge at invoice and they ordered it for me! It was a $42,0000 truck and I got it for $36,000. And got 0% finance! That was in 2004. But from what I've seen I think you can still buy one at invoice.

I'm leary of Dodge's autos. People say they are better now... but... I have a 6 speed manual... yeah you have to shift but it's built like a tank. Of course the new trucks have a different manual in them now.

Good luck

Just look up the invoice for the truck on KBB and offer that. They'll take it.

I like the Allison trans in the Chevy. But I despise Government Motors.

I don't trust Ford's diesel designing abilities....

So that leaves Dodge with the Cummins... I don't trust their autos so that leaves a manual. So if I was spending money... I would buy a manual Cummins Ram 3500 dually... actually I may buy the 4500. I like the rig wheels!

I watched it but I cant understand why they didnt have dodge in every test it was mainly ford, the dodge that bad....

I think the Dodge may have beat the Chevy in some areas... Thus they didn't show. I agree it was lame to not have the dodge in every comp.
