Nothing about this unique to Craigs. Doesn't even say it was happened as a result of a Craigslist listing. However, sellers do need to exercise caution. Suspect thieves operate in every arena and with all motorized vehicles. Be wise.

Nonetheless, I am determined not to live my life acting as if everyone and everybody is a thief and a jerk. Life's too short for that. The vast majority of people are still good folks. I don't want to live in a world where we all have a horrible attitude toward each other, all the time.

No different from selling thru a classified ad in the paper or a flyer on a bulletin board. The location of the ad makes no difference.

Cashiers checks can be forged, personal checks bounce. Always protect yourself, always go for cash or a bank to bank (not Western Union) wire transfer.

Yeap had to count a paper sack filled with 20 dollar bills, because the other check bounced pretty high. A lot of listers are Bogus too, but not all.

The title of this thread is dead on accurate... "Be careful selling with Craig's List!". But, like previous posters have said... That's true of any kind of selling. Buying is the same way.

Craig's list is a powerful tool for introducing those who have to those who want. After the introduction you're on your own.

A friend of mine just sold his '39 Chevrolet at the NSRA Nat's last weekend in Louisville. A guy wanted to give him a bank check. My friend just laughed. How about cash?? Walked out to the parking lot with another guy who drove another car up with him with 32k in 100 bills stuff in his pockets and several bags. Said he was nervous all the way home.
Said when he got home he got scared again because he never checked to see if the 100's were good or not (they were)

We have Kijiji here in Canada, eh. Same thing as Craig's List only different!

This past Sunday a friend of mine found a guys ad on Kijiji...$150 for a pair of 6.50 x 16 tri rib tractor tires with tubes and on rims. He did a bit of sleuthing and found out the guy was the same fellow who out bid him at an auction last year for the same set of tires. He wanted them for his old 8N and wouldn't believe my buddy when he told him they wouldn't fit. They went for $150 at auction. They were like new too, lots of piping still on them. Anyways, my buddy asked me to phone him and offer $100 for the pair because he knew the old fart wouldn't sell to him at that price if he found out who he was. I did and the guy was wanting more but we had decided that $100 was the limit...and that's what he sold them to me for! I just picked them up tonight.

Out in Seattle-Tacoma area they have had 4 murder trials for what is termed the Craigslist killing. Guy advertised a ring to sell and the supposed buyers killed him. Be careful out there.
