The wife and I drive horses for fun and pleasure ONLY. Not a religous thing for us. just fun. Horses are not cheap to say the least, but i spend less on my team then my brother spends on skiing...so its all in how you view your fun.

I have both Old Order Amish and Mennonites as neighbors, and I can't say enough good things about them. Their children are clean and respectful, they are great neighbors. They watch my place when I'm away, and if they see I have a problem, or need help, they are there without me even asking. When I had my heart attack 6 years ago, I came home to find my hay crop harvested, my barns full, and even my pastures overseeded. I can't say enough good things about them. :)

I need to learn to keep my mouth shut. I agree, they are the best in neighbors. Its just a couple of bad experiences, but most are great neighbors. The lean-to on my barn blew off a couple of years ago. Carmi Horst (bought my wife's uncle's place down the road) offered to have a "frolick" as he calls it, and help me build it back. I've started with the 6X6 posts but don't have all the materials yet. Too used to doing everything by myself, or just too stubborn to accept.

I know what you mean. Most times I'm happy to offer help to friends, but always reluctant to accept it.

Terrific pictures. Your fijords look like a well matched team. I've always loved combined driving events and they do take skill and a lot of hard work and training! I like your lean in the back there. Does it really help with the balance on turns and rough ground?

Yes..... my wife was driving this time, as there were alot of tight obstacles and im able to throw the cart around more then she can. We race thru trees that are only 6-7 inches wider than the cart width at a trot and.or canter. heck of alot of fun. Have to start wearing Kevlar vests soon.

I can throw the rear of the cart left or right to miss the obstacle as long as she gets us close. This cart is protected from locking onto trees, etc with strategically placed guards to prevent the wheels from locking up. And its full undercut so i can turn the team on a 5 foot wide trail if needed.

In that magazine picture, you cant tell but we were turning on an uphill slope, so i lean to keep the carriage upright. We were just getting ready to enter the water obstacle.

To say the least- puts a little excitement into life! Horses and driving are worth it!

Although I have a sense of humor, but I found that disrespectful.
