Yesterday a local county farmer mowed his 20 acre field beginning at he "crack-of-dawn. Since the day was the usual extremely hot weather for this time of the year, he was able to fluff and row the field by early after noon.

Following the fluffing, he exchanged the rake apparatus for a round-bailer. He baled the entire field, finishing just before dusk. "Not letting the hay get dew overnight makes for much better hay," he commented.

Today he used another tractor equipped with a "bale-spike" on the front to move all the bales (each bale weighing approximately 900 lbs.) from the field into his barn. They were all stacked tightly several bales high.

"This is just one of several cuts I need each year," he said as he successfully finished the job and parked his tractor for the night.

I'm sure things like this happen every day all over, but no one ever seems to mention them.

What is your point and why is it in the safety forums?

The point is that tractors can and are used safely every day. However, we only seem to hear about when things go wrong.

Good point. Hundreds of thousands of actions a day are done with absolutely no ill effects and they are never mentioned.

That said how do we know this was being safe and isn't just lucky? :)

Now for the rest of the story.................. the bales of hay that were neatly stacked came crashing down. The farmer noticed what was happening so he jumped. He had left the bale spear on the tractor which caught his shoe lace which inturn caused him to flip through the air landing on the baler. He is okay but has decided farming just isn't worth it anymore :D just kidding.

XR650R's ruled the desert after Kawasaki's KX500 reign. You pulled Maine's version of a Danny Hamel and lived to tell about it.

Except the haybale didn't continue on and the cops actually cared. :)

Well....the hay bale did move 35 ft. OK, now my curiosity is really piqued. "The Haymaker", is that in reference to your accident, do you make hay or are you a fighter? BTW: That was brutal.... a true "Rag Doll"! Your friends didn't laugh and ask what gear you were in did they? ‪Seth Enslow Crash‬‏ - YouTube

Nope, The Haymaker is nothing but a monker given to me that stuck. I run the site and a few large dirtbike groups, and even ones I do not participate in mention the name. Funny now, wasn't 9 years ago. As a matter of fact, both of these came up today, if they are visible to non-members. These should answer the laughing question. :)

Had an older neighbor tell me how to hang the pulp hook on the tractor he was lending me to haul home the trailer load of 4' firewood. Said if the hook pointed out and I jumped from the tractor without looking, I'd impale myself. Made sense, I listened!

I like that scarecrow!
