I think it's either 94.5 or 93.5 somebody know?

prior to that was a NA 7.3 right... early 90's? and then a short run of a turbo 7.3, then the totally different engine the 7.3 psd..

down the road a guy is suposedly selling a 94 f350 with 61K original miles on it. no rust and clean interior. It's like it rolled out of a garage after 17ys almost.

it's a bit too old for me to consider as a replacement for my dodge.. but it was neat to look at the pics... got me wondering if it was a turbo 7.3 or a psd early.

truck sheet metal is the older boxy style. ( not unatractive to me.. I like boxy tin on old fords.. :) )

The 7.3 turbo was introduced mid year 1994. This was the first power stroke. It actually ran for quite a while, til 2003. Then came the infamous 6.0 power stroke from 2004 - 2007. The 6.4 came out in 2008 super duties.

is that the 'turbo' 7.3 or the 7.3psd that was 94.5 as I know there is a turbo 7.3 that is a totally different engine than a 7.3psd. we have a f250 pacifica that is a early 94.. has a 7.3 turbo.. but not a psd engine..

I edited my post for clarity... The 7.3 prior to 1994 was an indirect injected non-turbo engine. When they introduced the 7.3 turbo, quite a different engine than the 7.3 idi non-turbo, they picked up the power stroke moniker.

i was under the impression there was a turbo 7.3 that was different from the psd. IE.. a turbo added to the NA 7.3 of previous years?

Not to my knowledge, but I could certainly be wrong. I think the confusion comes in because they went from a non-turbo 6.9 idi to a non-turbo 7.3 idi shortly before going to the 7.3 turbo psd.

They made a 7.3 navistar diesel that had a turbo in early z94 then they went to 7.3 power stroke in late 1994 (94.5). I owned nav 7.3 turbo and it was nothing close to the power stroke engine.

The 1994 7.3 turbo was only available for a short while. Then the powerstroke came out in 1995. The 94 turbo was only available with a 5sp manual shift, since the automatics wouldn't hold up. I have a 94 non turbo. It's a tough engine. I know someone who has a 94 turbo, it's constantly in the shop.

The non turbo 7.3 had 185hp. The turbo 7.3 had 190hp. I believe the 95 powerstroke had 225hp.

I believe that that short run(maybe 6 months) 7.3IDI with an ATS turbo from the factory was definitely an improvement over the NA 7.3. I have an 88 F250 with the first run of the 7.3 IDI engines. Actually it is now a later 92 7.3 IDI. The NA engines were pretty much dogs and mine never did get very good mileage. I have since rebuilt built that 92 7.3 into what I call a mechanical power stroke engine. It now has a Banks turbo with an intercooler from a 2002 PSD. It runs every bit as good as my 2001 7.3 PSD.

I'm positive that the early 94 was the turbo only, I had one that I ordered and got whenever it was avail. I had to wait for them te get what they called Front end acessory drive (or something like thet) figured out. That was the first diesel to have the serpentine belt rather than the odl 3/4 belt 7.3.
It wasn't 5 mos. or so when they came out with the PSD (I was pissed!) with the new direct high pres. injection fuel sys. AND the intercooler. I had a friend that had a 94 (late) PSD.

Rustyiron, my truck is a early 94. It has a 7.3L non turbo, and a serpentine belt. It's a shame the rest of the truck is falling apart, since that engine runs like a bear.

But I think that the torque was up quite a bit from the non turbo engine.

As far as the guy that has his truck in the shop all the time, Good chance that it is the guy. I have come across a couple of guys that had around 200k miles and have been trouble free. The turbo 7.3 IDI was not built with the same parts. They had bigger rods, bigger balancer, different flywheel, hard anodized pistons, better engine oil cooler. They are the same engine, only different. Oh and you could get one in front of an automatic. ;)

I don't think that there were any factory intercoolers intil 1999 with the new body style.

I had a '94 F-350 dually with the 7.3 idi Turbo. These trucks had a "Turbo Diesel" badge on the tailgate. These engines were used throughout the '94 model year with auto and manual transmissions. The PowerStroke came out in late '94 and was used only with manual transmissions until the '95's came out and then they were used with autos and manuals. The 7.3 idi Turbo diesel was a good engine, no computers or electronics.

Wolfy, I can't remember if the turbo was an option (I ordered the tk) or on all of 'em. I think that a lot of goofy things go on with some of the bigger changes and model year designation.

I've got a '94.5 F-250 with the PowerStroke in the yard right now. Been a great truck, 314,800 miles and counting. Manual transmission, no intercooler.

Came with the 'Turbo Diesel' badges like the non PSD trucks.
