I recently purchased a woods rear mount finish mower, an older model of course and I was wondering what the chains are used for, along with the 3 point hookup? Can anyone tell me? Thanks

I think you are referring to the chains on the three point linkage. These allow the deck to float on uneven terrain.

They are for setting the cut height.

Thanks, how do you set the height exactly? I have not used a mower with this setup before, please forgive my ignorance on this matter. Thanks for the help.

the clips with the slots for the chain attaches to the tractor top link. One clip on the outside of each side of the ball. So the top link of the tractor, clip ,ball ,clip, tractor top link. All held in place with the normal pin and clip. The chains run up from the mower deck and are attached to the slots in the clips. The chains Keep the mower deck hanging from the tractors top link. When you raise the three point up and then lower the mower it will always be hanging at the same height. If the mower is level just count the same number of chain links on each sides- add a zip tie and you will have a reference point. IF you see someone mowing stop and check their set up out. Far easier to understand when looking at it.

Can anybody give a quick answer on removing blades on a 59rm woods finish 3 blades of course.

Blade bolts are reverse thread. Use a impact or a breaker bar. Each spindle has a grease fitting grease once a year.Check idle pulleys bearings.USE ONLY WOODS BRAND BELT# 31700 $88.00 MODEL IS RM 52-2. There are 3 choices of new blades one is high lift. A stray stick in the drive area will get caught and break the belt.guess how i know.I used those chains for the cutter height on a 9n or any tracor that will not hold a steady height. It has been a exelent cutter but stay on the lawn grass. It is not a bush hog. a 15 year owner.

For the first removal, after the impact wrench didn't work, I put a pipe on the blade and a pipe on the breaker bar and pulled (!! NOTE reverse threads !!). After the blades were off I replaced the tensioning washers and there was no further problem.

THE CHAINS HOOK UNDER WHERE YOUR 3 PONY ARMS HOOK ON MOWER. THERE IS A TEAR DROP HOLE ON EACH SIDE. HOOK THE CHAINS IN THOSE HOLES AND TEN UP TO WHERE YOUR D-LING OR TOP BAR HOOKS ON THE TRACTOR. YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A COPUPLE LITTE PIECES OF METAL WITH A LITTLE BEND IN THEM. THESE HOOK ON THE SAME PIN THAT YOUR D-LINK OR UPPER ARM USES. HOOK THEM ON EACH SIDE OF THAT PIN AND THE HOOK HE CHAIN IN THOSE.
