Tractor
kUBOTA m7040
I decided to get the m7040 , I have 30 hours on it now and it is a power house, however it pound for pound in two wheel drive will not pull with the 885 David Brown that I just sold yesterday. This is a comfortable tractor and doe's just what I expected it to do and more. It will carry a load and it will push a load. Still If my old David Brown had 4x4 it would out do this 71 horse power Kubota hands down. The David Brown runs all day on about 7 gallons of fuel, the Kubota about a gallon an hour. I still would recommend this tractor and glad that I have it. I think that it will give me many years of service.

When the guy's son came to pick up My old David Brown, when he cranked he looked at his dad and said **** this is good. The David Brown 37 years old paid 6500 for it and sold it for 4000 not bad. it was well cared for and it showed.

Congrats on your new tractor. You're really going to like it. It is a beast, and mine has done everything I asked of it with nary a whimper.

Good luck and stay safe.

Hey if you don't mind me asking who makes the grapple on your tractor and how do you like it?

We have an M8540 and love it. We use an old Case 995 on another farm, looks similar to the David Brown.

Yes, you can have too many tractors, our MF 375 hasn't moved in months, but can't stand to get rid of it.

We've all sold /traded etc stuff in which we sometimes regret.
Not trying to make you feel bad but if that David Brown pic is a recent one :That was a nice looking tractor.
Wound not of mind to have it myself for parade tractor.
BTW: I hope you did not get that front bumper for the D.Brown on an active railroad track. :D
Once again nice Bota !

The Grapple is a Modern Grapple, It works very good and the only thing that you have to watch is a limb coming through the holes in the back of the grapple and going through your grill. This came close to happening so I built an expanded metal grill that slides over the front bumper. It is extra heavy expanded metal and is double sided, and has all ready paid off.

The rail road bumper is as old as the case is and it came from a shop that my Dad worked at. They used it as a table to line up trailers while building them. After job was complete it went to scrap.

The picture of the David Brown was taken about three weeks ago. Every time I tell someone that I sold the old tractor they look at me funny and ask what the heck did you do that for.

You just have to love the old style ag tractors like your 885. Basic, honest machines designed to do one thing really well... pull like all get out. You new Bota is more versatile and will do more stuff than the old 885, but you're right, it's designed as a 4x4 and doesn't have the weight distribution to pull as strong operating as a 4x2. I expect it'll grow on 'ya though. Great tractor. Enjoy.

50 hour service on the Kubota. I took it to the dealer and left it to be serviced. The M series has everything changed all fluids and filters. The L series doe's not they got confused I guess and did not change everything. When I was logging the ticked into the log book I noticed that it took the same amount of transmission fluid and it did motor oil. (Wrong) There is 14 gallons of fluid in the tranny. when I checked it none showed up on the dip stick. I called them and guess what it go's back in the morning to complete the service. A thunder storm was all that kept me from putting the grapple on and going to work. That might have been a mistake. They say there is enough fluid in the tranny but who knows. The front end loader works so it had to be some in it. What a day.
