I used my horn the other day for first time in years..:D
I was thinking how its almost obsolete for me..But required for inspections...more need in the city maybe?

My 30YO tractor didn't come with one, but I've been thinking about adding it since it was an option. I'm also curious what the situation was where it was needed.

Mine is pretty much only used for acknowledging someone I know (friendly like).
Quickly followed by a hand gesture if riled:laughing:

yeah...most likely that's the case. I use mine once a day or more....people on cell phones ...texting.. eating a ham sandwitch.... and in general not paying attention to what's going on around them is all in a days drive to work.

I use mine so seldom that the other day when I wanted to get the attention of a woman who was drifting into my lane while she talked on the phone I almost had a wreck trying to find it.

I lived in Puerto Rico for four years and when we finally got off that #%^& island I was amazed how seldom gringos use their horns, at least here in Missouri. In Puerto Rico all drivers are required to blow their horns whenever the light changes. Red to green. Green to red. No difference. Lots of other times, too, like when passing in the third, fourth or fifth lane of a single lane road.

That was a few years ago, so maybe it has changed.....nah. Not likely.

I have noticed that apparently, turn signals have become optional equipment. :))

I bet my new L3540 has a horn! :ashamed: I wounder where it is? Haven't even thought about it, I know it's got turn signals.

My 30 YO 2240 has flashers and a backup alarm. Does that count?:D

'Course the backup alarm is the old kind that bolts onto a wheel and only works if you're moving. Part of the reason I was thinking about putting a horn on it. Just a couple of beeps before starting to back up if there's someone around while I'm working.

I use my horn often. It is louder than my finger.

If you do much driving in cities, you'll relies that it is a very useful tool although that still depends on the driver. I don't think I have ever used the horn but I rarely ever drive, my dad never used the horn until living in the city for a while even now he uses the horn very little compared to the rest of the city drivers.

I want to put a air horn on my tractor though for some occasional use and show.:D

What would be different now that would cause the horn to be obsolete? I use mine the same now as I ever did, rarely.

Horns are good when you are in someone's blind spot and they are drifting into you. They really don't know you are there. Sometimes there is room to escape, sometimes not. The horn has saved me from a couple of accidents.

The latest was an elderly person backing out of an angled parking spot into stopped traffic - I happened to be the one stopped behind their car - of course. It took a long time for that elderly person to process the constant horn blast and react, it was a matter of inches. These things never happen to my wife while she is driving.

I try to use the horn everyday... not hard to do around here. I do that so I know where it is in case of emergency. :D

go to any border town...or San Antonio/Laredo. The horn is alive and well. Them mescans wouldnt know how to drive otherwise.BTW,my stepmother is a mescan and she was the one that pointed it out to me. :D

my new tractor has a horn, and ive actually used it. Due to the cab, i cant yell for someones attention.

The horn that came with the tractor sounded like a 1960's vintage volkswagon....uhuh

that had to go. i replaced it with a much beefier sounding NAPA unit.

now im thinking....air horn hehe:licking:

Yes, definitely used more in the city....My little daily commuter car came with a sick sounding "meep meep" little toy horn that seemed to get ignored if I used it. I quickly replaced it with a stebel nautilus compact air horn -- it gets peoples attention when I it need to....I knew it was much better when I put it in, but didin't realize HOW good it was 'till my wife was following me in that car while was in the Tahoe - she hit that horn and WOW! It's a distinct sound, too.
