A lot of dinosaurs on this thread.

I am not going to defend the new Ford motors since I have not driven one. If my 09 F150 proves to be half the truck my 93 F150 is I will not need to try the new motors because the next line of motors will be out before the 09 wears out. I think my 93 has out lived its warranty by a few miles and a few years. The motor and transmission have never been touched. Heck it has the original alternator. The only real repairs are a new starter, AC compressor, two fuel pumps, and the rear main seal replaced. The old girl continues to live up to its "hype".

So in 8 years you went through a starter, air conditioner, TWO fuel pumps and the rear main seal??? How many miles?

MossRoad, it's a 93. That's 18 years.

I was too once i found out... a long after the vehicle left the dealer.

Was your friends truck a Tundra?

No it's a Tacoma.

interesting. There was a TSB on current Taco for a 1-2 or 3-2? gear laggy shift issue. That didnt require a rebuild, just a reflash. I wasnt aware of any wide spread problems requiring a trans replacement with current Taco. But thats not saying it couldnt have been bad from new. One or even a couple bad trans (or whatever) on a new vehicle isnt unexpected, its when you have thousands and start to see a trend that I personally get concerned.

This one made it to the dealership and wouldn't move again.
