It's GM aiming for higher fuel mileage. At least that's what I've heard behind Chevrolet or GMC's slight rake to stance.

Right..... its gotta be getting better fuel mileage if its always going down hill. ;)

I've had two chevy trucks since 1993. Current one is 2003 2500HD 4x4. Both were higher in the back. I appreciate the height difference because I can load the bed like crazy and still have the bed higher than the front. That keeps the handling good- not dancing around the road either when I pull a heavy trailer. I figure Chevy owners often like to put lift kits on their trucks with oversize wheels. Larger wheel wells make this easy. If the bed is overloaded - the larger wheel well accommodates it better when the ride is bumpy. -...what do they say - Chevys are for work, the others are for town! ... having some fun here!

I don't know why some vehicles come from the factory not sitting level. In the Fall of 1989, I bought a new Chevrolet one ton dually, extended cab and the back end was too high. It wasn't sitting level even with our fifh-wheel hooked up and 2500 pounds on the pin. With the back end high, there was too great a chance of a back corner of the truck hitting the undeside of the trailer. So the day after Christmas I took it to Weaver Spring in Dallas and had them de-arch the rear springs 2" and that fixed it.

I don't think mine sits all that far off of level...maybe the 20" wheels fill up the fenderwells...Who Knows

I believe the "tilt" is predominately a 2500-3500 series trait.

I think dgl24087 is right. The 3/4 and 1 tons do seem to sit higher in back than the comparable Fords. Probably just the heavier springs. Timswi's Jimmy sit level like mine.

I have a 2011 half ton Silverado and you are right about the large rear wheel well, not sure what the purpose is?

Big difference is GM uses a square wheel well that is less unfinished compared to Fords curved wheel well with more care on the finish. Just the difference of the shape of the wheel well gives a much more airy look to the wheel well of the GM.

Ford also uses larger tires. For example the GM 3/4 ton trucks came with 245's while my F-250 has larger 285's. In my opinion the GM 3/4 ton trucks look the worst because of the smallish tires and big open wheel wells. Throw a set of 285's on the GM's and they look much much better.

Your bigger tires makes all the difference to the eye.

Is it a 2wd and 4wd or just 4wd trait? Which truck rides better? I've always found the Ford 4wds ride stiff but I've only been in 3/4 and 1 tons and the newest GM I've driven/ rode in was a 2003.

Is it just me or have others noticed this too:

After looking at pics online, I noticed that Chevy trucks seem to nosedive in the front and their beds seem to ride very high while Ford trucks seem to be level. Also on the Chevy trucks they seem to have a very large rear wheel well...So, is it just me or have all of you noticed this too???

DISCLAIMER: This is not intented to start a Ford vs Chevy debate, just an observation. :)

I have observed this as well.

Not me...I don't look at Chevy trucks:laughing:

I have wondered why so many 4x4 pickups I see that have been "lifted" by their owners are higher in the FRONT. Just doesn't look right....like they always have 3 tons in the bed.
