Well, I found out today that I didn't get the job. I am disappointed, I really thought I had a good shot. If the person that got the job was a better candidate, then he deserves the job.

I saw a lot of good people not get a job they should---mee included---- and I just retired after decades with the competition.
While I didn't put the other guys out of business, I impacted them in a big way.

Maybe ask the people you interviewed with to keep you in mind if things don't work out and also maybe could they refer you to anyone else?
Ask if you can use them for a referral.
I did all of those things.
Don't worry, things happen for a reason and usually work out to your advantage.
Relax, this too shall pass.

Sorry to hear that. I must say, reading your posts, you seem like a very thoughtful, articulate, and organized person. I'm sure you'll find something soon and I think you're approaching this with the right attitude. I remember looking for a job myself, not too long ago. The interview process would take so long, you couldn't help but start imagining yourself in the job, and thinking the further along it got, your chances were pretty good. When it didn't happen, it was a disappointment, but the attitude that you've shown makes all the difference in the world. You simply move on to the next potential opportunity. Best of luck!

Wow is that true. You are a stand-up guy with character and determination.
Just need to flip the right rock to find the right match.

I think we all share your disappointment!

Must have been some kind of fabulous candidate to beat you out. As others have said, you possess a great attitude; I'm sure something even better will turn up. Their loss, as near as I can tell. WBB in NH

Thanks everyone. Monday I'll sent Thank You notes to the management that interviewed me last Friday along with my business card in case they have a need for an outside contractor to help with the extra work load from not having a full-time mechanic since last May. When we were taking the written test way back in December, one of the women from HR mentioned that they would likely farm some of the work out in order to get caught up. It can't hurt to be gracious and try to expand my business at the same time.

That sucks having to jump trough all these hoops and getting thumbs down.

It was sure easyer 30 yrs ago to land a job,i can't remember having ever filled out an application for one.
a phone call,a 10 min chat and a week to prove myself is all it took.I stayed 3/5 yrs and moved on to the next one when i felt it was gonna be as good as it got.I Never had a problem finding one.

It seems today its like trying to win a lottery. Why the difficulty?.
There is no garanty the guy hired in the end is the right one anyway!

I'm glad i been self employed for the last 25.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune with the job, Brian. It seems the combined good wishes of everyone here just wasn't enough to push you over the top. Don't dispair. As talented and dedicated as you are, something will come along soon. This is just one more hurdle behind you on the way to the finish line.

Brian, Sorry you didn't get this job. Keep looking there may be something better out there.

Sorry you didn"t get the job. Did they give you a reason. It would be nice to know so you could try to improve in that area for future interviews.

Too bad it did not work out. Maybe the truth is when you said honesty, maybe they did not figure they can handle the truth. I find it gets me in trouble when I am being honest!

Just finished reading this. I'm curious to know what type of company this was for & what is the yearly income. With all those interviews it sure seems like it is an important position.

It was not for a company. It was for the city...

And probably every phase was reviewed by the city lawyer as well as the rights commission to assure they could not be liable in any way shape of form after which an outside consultant was retained to review the procedure.
Taxpayers $$ at work!

Even bets there was a oneway mirror in the room and tapeing also took place.
After which the mayors relative got the job anyway.

I'm sorry to hear that.
All too often in the public sector they already have a qualified candidate who has worked his way up through the ranks; but they still have to go through the motions.

I'm not sure if that's the case here or not, but I wouldn't be surprised it was.

There is always the possiblity that the person they hired would not pan out, be smart about how you handle the rejection. I interviewed two times for my current job. I sent thank you letters to the two main interviewers and the second time around they remembered me.

That is my thought process exactly.
